View Full Version : Anyone Else waiting for a BMW K1200LT Cover to come in ?

Gentlemen:
When I purchased my bike last month I knew it would be living outside my half million dollar 2 bedroom Bohemian hide away on the beach.
So I ordered a BMW K1200LT bike cover from Gulf Coast Motorcycles in Fort Myers Florida, who I find in most respects to be a very good shop.
It has been over a month since I plunked down my Visa card and they ordered it.
Every rain storm is a reminder that my new favorite toy in the universe is sitting outside in the elements.
Today again called for the 5th time to see if it has come in?
No, the item in the BMW computer system is still on "back order" and they said that it shows that there are none in any of the 5 United States warehouses.
They also stated that there are 67 other people who are waiting for their covers to arrive.
Now are these things lost on a slow boat from China?
$160 x 67 =$10,720.00 that we have tied up as a collective group!
at the prime rate of 8.25% interest that would be $73.70 dollars a month or $884.40 a year divided by 67 that would be $13.20 that we are loosing!
Or they are getting to use interest free!
Anyone else enjoying the wait with me?
Let me hear from you.
A small rant is good for the soul.
Thank you for your consideration,
I feel much better now that is all off my chest.
Any other preferred alternative after market covers???
Maybe someone out there has been waiting even longer?

March 7, 2007.
Still waiting!
Of course no one else has mentioned that they are also waiting so maybe I am alone in this?
This week the parts manager let me know that the BMW K1200LT cover is still on company wide back order but it now has a new part number in the computer.
What does this mean?
Is the slow boat from China still coming?
Were the North Koreans making these things so we had to switch to Taiwan?
There is nothing left to do but smile and pray that some day soon my dear sweet "Grace" will have her cover when the rains and hurricanes come to SW Florida.
Thanks for your consideration,
JMH

Yes I had ordered one back on November 11, 2006 from A&S BMW for a 06 LT. I did contact them once for an update and was told that it was still on BO. Hopefully I will receive it before I grow too old to remember why I ordered it.

Life's too short to stress about such things. Cancel your BMW order, buy a full cover from one of the many vendors on the 'net, then go catch a wave. Or you could continue counting pennies, if that makes you happy. :)

Gent's:
Still in wait mode, with weekly check in calls to the Gulf Coast BMW shop.
The last news was that there was a new part number but the item was still on nationwide back order.
The only option is to wait, or go to another after market brand and hope it fits the bikes quirks like having two antennas off the back.
Can't you just hear the whistling and melody to Sitting by the doc of the bay..
Thanks for your consideration,

Aloha Gentlemen:
Stopped in to the good old Gulf Coast BMW here in Fort Myers, the new 07 BMW fleet is in the showroom looking like a dream!
These guys deserve a little credit for at least knowing that the cover "that is still not yet arrived!" has had two part number changes.
And that the first one they ordered for inventory last October still had not made it in along with the other 5 on order.
I still do not have a problem with the good guys at www.GCmotorcycles.com our local BMW outpost.
Who knows maybe the Motorrad product testers are saving all of us from some defective workmanship on the covers that were received from somewhere far far away where they may have never even seen a BMW motorcycle???
We still have a month or so before the rainy season!
So in the spirit of adventure how could I take back my order and go with another after market brand, when I had come this far???
Stay tuned.

I ordered one from A&S a year ago and just remembered that when I got my bike out of storage (North Dakota; the heated seats etc don't quite make up for the winter here). I figured I just got screwed on the deal. What the heck is going on?
I just looked on ebay where someone is selling them way cheaper than A&S was? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110129469086
Is this a scam? I've never had a problem with A&S before.

Not sure what "scam" you're refering to??
That cover on ebay is NOT a BMW cover. If you ordered a cover from A&S and don't want to wait for it, please call us tomorrow and we'll refund your money. I'm waiting for one too if it makes you feel any better...

They accidentally shipped them all to my house and I'm not giving them up. Sorry.

I bought my cover at Wal-Mart. I made 2 holes for the antennas and it works great and fits the bike very well. I think I paid less than $30 a few years ago.

I've got to admit that my BMW BRAND cover is one of the best I've EVER bought. Excellent details, well thought out with clever little vents that pop up to let air circulate through it. Very, very nice. Well worth the money to protect my baby from the elements. It is high quality and made to last.
Even though it is ALWAYS garaged! ;)
Probably the best thing I've ever bought that was made in China.
Put a Walmart tarp over it with some bungees for $10.00 until your -
SLOW BOAT FROM CHINA .....errrrrr ...SHIP COMES IN! :histerica

Gentlemen:
To end my rant, the BMW cover finally arrived July 15th the week I returned from my 11,000 mile trip around the country.
You can see the ride tale at GraceHighWay.WordPress.Com.
It works great and I thank the good people down at Gulf Coast Motorcycles in Fort Myers for hanging in there and keeping me updated.
Funny thing is as soon as I arrived home I was fortunate enough to upgrade homes and now I have a two car garage under my beach house and the motorcycle lives in the garage. Oh the irony.
Thanks for the input from everyone!
