Anyone looked into the 45 or 47 liter GIVI Topcase for the 06-07 GT ?
I have used GIVI topcases on past R1100RT and my old 955i Triumph Tiger. They were excellent cases, did not leak, offered lighting options and never failed me during use on my previous bikes. Can be purchased in silver gloss, so repaint to match factory is easier. If I remember correctly, pricing was about 40% less than BMW Factory Case, with lighting option included !
I have sent an inquiry to Givi as to application for the 06-07 model year GT's

I was told today that development for this kit has not been started yet, but they expect it to happen in the near future ? No date provided....

I just bought a BMW 49L top case from a guy who preferred the Givi (which he can easily switch between multiple bikes). He simply attached the Givi mount to the factory rack on his RT.

that's a thought ! maybe the GIVI universal base plate can be bolted down to the new GT TailPlate ? If that works, then no problem mounting the case, unless the GT tailplate is not wide enough to provide a proper stable base for it to rest on ?, or there is not place to insert the GIVI holddown bolts/clamp assys ?
Anyone know of anybody who has tried this yet ?

I haven't paid much attention to the GT tail plate. If it is flat it should work as the GIVI plate has many slots and holes that could be used.

Hepco/Becker has kits for the 06+ GT's Will have to decide which is best route. Perhaps I can adapt the GIVI universal plate without any issues. Decisions, decisions !

You might consider the Krauser topcases for the new GT. If additional rear lighting is not a major consideration, IMHO the Krauser K4 and K5 are better styled and built and only slightly more money. Their K-Wing mounting plate and kit is very versatile for a variety of mounting applications.
Twisted Throttle is the US distributor for them (as well as Givi and Hepco Becker). Hepco becker and Krauser are same company. I actually saw a K4 mounted on another bike and it looked great. I have a new CGM GT coming at the end of February and will probably buy the Krauser K5.

I've fitted a Givi top case to my GT. It's very easy to do.
See this old thread from another site with pictures: http://www.i-bmw.com/showthread.php?t=1544
To summarise:-
The GT and RT share the same rear BMW rack. Givi make a rear plate to fit the RT rack although not yet (I don't think they've done any real research on this subject) for the new GT.
I simply bought the Givi RT mounting plate for my GT rear BMW rack. Fitted it as instructed and have been using a 46l Givi rear case on it since last April.
Never had any problems with it.
Now I want to fix up the case with the Givi brake light kit but not sure how to tap into the brake light wires on the BMW harness without disturbing the CAN bus electronics. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks for the inputs. I will order for base application to the RT and get the GIVI case I want. I have had two of them on previous bikes, and really like them. I will be adding the LED stop light feature.
I will post info about the hookup when I do it.
Thanks,
fas

My dealer gave me 50% off the large (49L) top case when I bought the GT, a free BMW charger, a free cover.....and he discounted the bike..:D
This is the second BMW I bought from the same gentleman.
I have never had a problem with the service team.
No interest in Givi from me. I like having the BMW propeller on the back. :yeah:

Hm. My dealer only offered 10-15% off, so instead I bought a used trunk for much less.
But then again, you do have Joe out that way softening up the local dealers. :)

Ordered it yesterday.. Options include base mount for R1200RT, Gloss Black Case Top, Stop-Light Kit, Interior Light Kit & Soft Back Pad. Only other option available is a Black Rack for the top of case. Did not order it.
My order cost me about 625.00/wtax thru my local Honda Dealer. i found that some dealers choose not to order GIVI's due to, as the dealers say, GIVI is too hard to deal with ?
I have previously used GIVI's on two other bikes in the past and found them to be very reliable, and no leaks.
They have a 50L case, but I opted for the smaller, due to cosmetic issues.
