guys I have a problem with the idle speed. was just traveling along and began to slow for a town let the throttle go back and to my consternation the bike just kept on going. pulled over and found that even with the throttle rolled right back it still idles at between 2and 3 thousand RPM. If I force the throttle to back past its normal position a little it will drop the idle to about 1200 rpm. any clues? or do I have to take it to the shop to be screwed again?

Binding throttle cables?

Some have experienced idle problems with loose vacuum hoses or ones that have come off.

If one of your vacuum hoses is loose or off the symptoms are only really noticeable at idle. And then it is usually a cycling up & down, not just a higher RPM. The fact that it was hanging up sounds a little more like a cable snagging.

I'm sure others will chime in soon.

Gotta agree with the throttle cable hanging up. Once they start to fray, it is only a matter of time ( a SHORT time) before it will break. Don't wait, fix it now, before it strands you somewhere you don't want to be stranded. (Go ahead, ask me how I know this...) :o

Agreed. A vacuum leak will cause erratic idle speeds, anywhere from stalling to over 2,000 RPM. However, once riding, there is no noticeable affect.

Sounds like bad throttle cable to me too.
