CARB (California Air Resorces Board) is really getting tough on the LOUD pipe croud. I have heard of many HD shops in SO Cal and Nor Cal getting fined for installing pipes and other after market items that violate CA emmisions laws. Hope it actually does some good. I'm sick of listening to those damn things...

It should cut down on "noise pollution" at least.

A quarter of a MILLION dollars???
THAT is Government run-amuck!
I don't like the loud pipes either and truthfully don't understand for a minute what the allure is of riding around trying to piss people off. However, if anyone needs an example of an oppressive, opportunistic Government, this is exhibit A.

Actually, that is getting off LIGHT! Remember, Jesse James is a MANUFACTURER, not just an owner customizing his bike. I would agree that a quarter million would be extreme if levied against an owner, but for a manufacturer selling many bikes, he should be thankful it was not worse.

Let see here... 50 plus bikes at 100,000 grand plus per unit = $5,000,000+++
I'd say he's gettin' off REAL light:(

Sheeesh. I hope one of you guys never stop by to look for any violations on any of my vehicles!
I still say that is a pretty outlandish fine, but your point is well taken that he is a manufacturer and not just some owner. I guess he wouldn't have much chance in court fighting it again on appeal either, since he only had the bikes filmed while being built. :p
I wonder how this works out though, 50 bikes X 100k = $5mil. - 38% tax bracket = $3.1mil - child support for three kids = (~47% of gross pay) = $1.643 mil. - State income tax (9.3% of gross) = $1.178 mil - $250k violation = $928,000 left over to actually live on! OMFG! :( And that's probably a pretty low estimate when you start to factor in the costs associated with that lifestyle and the fact that he has some expensive tastes in cars and stuff. Good thing he sells a LOT of T-Shirts! Poor guy, I almost feel bad for him now.... :D

According to this, all of Jesse's bikes could have been made compliant with the installation of a CHARCOAL CANNISTER!
I can see the posts on "Reverse Cannisterectomies" now.
