I've been toying with installing Mozilla's Firefox web browser to replace Internet Exploder. Is it true that Firefox will not display info that uses ActiveX ?? If correct, do you view this as a significant liability ?? Thanx.

Bob,
When you download Firefox, you will still have access to IE (ver . . .?)
As some say, "Just Do It!"
I'm sure you'll like it's features.

Why would you need a browser that runs ActiveX controls? That's the #1 way spyware gets on one's PC. That's exactly why I run Firefox -- because it doesn't run ActiveX controls.

Now, if you are asking if they run Active Server Pages (asp), then yes, Firefox (and nearly every modern browser) runs Active Server Pages.

Bob:
Just installed Mozilla a littl ewhile back, only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Go for it.

Lets ride one day when it warms up.

Not really. Rogue use of ActiveX controls is a big problem. Spyware, adware, malware exploit various weaknesses in IE, including the ActiveX. While similar in nature to a Java applet, ActiveX controls are much different. Unlike Java applets, ActiveX controls have full access to the Windows operating system which gives them much more power than Java applets. There is significant risk because a rogue ActiveX control can damage data on your machine.

If you really want to run IE - use this (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/) extension... works quite well...

Very few, if any, legitimate web developers use ActiveX for their pages. It's pretty much a dead technology for web. Java won the fight back in the 90s. And today newer stuff, like Flash plug-ins, have supplanted Java for client side (meaning at the browser) computing technologies.

IE sucks. It's a dinosaur and is no longer the standard to which www geeks build their sites.
