I am considering this upgrade but I want to make sure that A it will work and B that the difference is really noticeable.

Not in the LT but in my '96 Lincoln MK8 and it was of limited value. I did install the CQ HID kit from the group buy (still valid until 1/31/07 @ $85.99 pp) and I am very pleased with that. I am ordering a set of HIDs for the Lincoln as well.

I used them in my RT......thought it was a noticeable difference. Went from the Haolgen yellow........to a slightly blue/white.

If you want better lighting, you have to get a different light. I would consider and HID or the Ducatti Designs, which I recently installed. With either one you should be quite satisfied. Don't waste your money changing just the bulb. All you'll do is go from yellowish to bluish,as a fellow member said above.

I see that this is your first post so you may have not seen the HID group buy.

I am considering this upgrade but I want to make sure that A it will work and B that the difference is really noticeable.I would not spend the $20.00 + it takes to replace the bulb to get marginal improvement as I did on my 99LT, but instead go with the $85.00 HID deal. You will be amazed at the difference!
If installation seems daunting I am sure you can find comfort in the installation instructions on this site, not to mention calling someone directly if you get stuck. Depending on where you are there may be a tech session coming up, and that my friend, is the ticket!!!;)

I had them in my LT. They are whiter, but not brighter. HID is the best way to significantly improve the lighting on an LT.

yup.. gotta go with the HID... as they say, "Just DO IT!"

Silverstars are a good "emergency" replacement, but not worth the $ for the % improvement.

I put Silverstars (not the newer "Ultra" ones) in both my cars high beams to try and get closer to the HID low beams. In my opinion, they were an absolute waste of money. I could barely tell the difference between them and the standard halogens. I had put in one, turned on the lights to see the difference, and had to look at the bulbs on my bench again to be sure I had actually changed one. Even if the "Ultras" are a little better, they still won'g be a big change, only a little whiter color, but very little if any "more" light. To get more light, you need increased lumen output, not just whiter color.

HID is the ONLY way to get greatly increased light output over halogens. It is impossible to do with any halogen bulb, no matter the advertisements. If you try something like the 100 watt halogen bulbs, you will damage the headlight assembly, to the tune of over $300.

I have seen evidence the heat at the base of these newer halogen bulbs is destroying the plastic plugs over time. The one on my low beam is cracked and brittle from the heat. Little brother brought me his 02 Ford pickup with in-op head lights. Plugs melted and shorted out circuit. Plugs were not obtainable from dealer. Had to purchase entire wire harness from scrap yard and splice in new ends. What a P.I.T.A. By the time you buy the high and low beam you'll be half ways to the purchase of the HID from CQ Lighting.........

If the $86 HID kit currently available doesn't sound like your cup of tea, at least check out my thread on the H7 lamps I bought off eBay (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18600) and installed in my GT. These are the exact same lamps used in for LT's low-beam. And two for $7.48 to your door is a price that can't be beat. I'll betcha they are as bright as the Silverstars at a fraction of the price.
