Long Way Round for kids?

I haven't seen this yet but I did get the two disc DVD set for Christmas. My sons are now lobbying to watch the motorcycle movie with dad. Anybody care to comment on how appropriate this is for an eight and ten year old? Thanks.

Quite a bit of profanity (mainly F word) based on the difficulty & hardships of the trip!
As I recall there are almost six hours of video on the two disks. It's really an adventure, but there was very little editing of the actual dialogue.

I just watched Charlie Boorman's Race to Dakar and there is much of the same format.

These are life & death adventures and the realism is certainly portrayed through the language.

If my kids were that age ,I'd try & review each segment for the "salty" parts and be ready w/ the mute button, but that's a personal choice. They are now adults with kids that are just learning our wonderful language!

There is a small amount of profanity and sexual discussion consistent with European television. F-word now and again primarily from Ewan. They eat some interesting stuff along the way that may require an anatomical explanation but I think that's just part of a good cultural introduction. Most kids have heard the bad words and with a caveat of explanation from you in advance the greatness of the series outweighs any concerns I would have in watching with the boys.

I have a simple rule in my house: My kids are allowed to say anything that I say. Along those same lines, allowing my kids to watch a movie that I know has profanity would be kinda sorta like condoning the use. Unnacceptable!...to me.

I'm not naive. I know that my 14-year-old son knows the 'F' word. But he won't hear me use it...nor will he watch me watch anyone else say it in my house. Whether it's on TV and wherever. So with all of that, I say "No, don't let them watch it" to your question. Since when is protecting our kids not a noble thing? :)

I'm glad I DVR'ed the series when it played on Discovery. And I did enjoy explaining to my son what they ate in Mongolia. Especially when I told them that I've eaten them as well. :D
