The LT boys have been going hog wild lately about buying aftermarket horns. I always thought the LT had a decent set of horns... But, The GT horn just plain old sucks. So I ordered me a set of Fiamms and hopefully I can find a place to mount them. Does anyone know how many amps our little chicken horns draw? And are they canbus monitored? The Fiamms I ordered draw 8 amps a piece. I was hoping I could do a straight swap out with them. Anybody have any experience with this on the new gen GT?

Yes, the OEM horns are CANbus monitored. IIRC, the Fiamm horns will shut down that circuit if you do a straight swap. Go checkout the GT subforum over at K-Bikes.com. Several horn threads over there.

I'm guessing that you'll have to use the OEM horn's positive lead to trigger a relay that controls the aftermarket horns.

Randy,

Thanks for both the internet acronym directory and the horn issue.:thumb: I have a winter list and the HORN must go. I needed it one time last summer when some kids were walking into the lane against the light and it was of ZERO help. Thank goodness for terrific Brembo brakes and ABS. How could they put such a wimpy horn on such an amazing piece of engineering? I love BMW, recruited BMW people when I opened my Munich office. But, this GT horn is so inappropriate for a rocket bike.

Did you see the thread regarding the group buy on the aftermarket horn?

Although I disagree entirely about the GT needing a louder horn, this deal is tough to pass up. And besides, just thinking of all the fun I can have with this horn at CCR makes it just down-right irresistable. :D

Joe, how does a Fiamm horn compare with the Stebel? The group buy on the Stebel includes all necessary H/W including a relay.

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?I don't have a clue. Frankly, I really don't have an issue with the stock horn. I'm just buying the aftermarket horn because it's so darn cheap. And to blast the thing as I pull into CCR! :D :D :D

Can you imagine a bunch of BMW bikes (yes, I'll include your GT  ) with these horns, in traffic? Cagers will be dodging left and right to get out of the way.

And that, in and of itself, is reason enough to plunk down $40 on one! ;)

To me, the stock horn on the GT sounds like a sick goose or something. Not nearly as "ballsy" as the LT. BUT, I have been accused of being deaf before.

One of my projects for the new GT, is to try to adapt the PIAA Horns to the GT mounting location/s..

Where are you located in Garland? I bought a new Strebel and it looks like I need to modify the OEM mount to clear the fairing on my '05 LT. Thought you might have an idea or option. I'm next door to you here in Rowlett.

I, too am in need of a bracket to mount the Stebel horn in lieu of one of my stock horns on an '00 LT. DO you have any interest in the project? I sold 35 of these horns as part of the aforementioned group buy, so there may be others in need of the same solution.

TIA

Tony

With Tony and/or Keith's assistance of test subject.. Tony offered up his bike first.. Thanks, Tony.. :)

I will be doing new modified horn mounting brackets for the LT. I plan to develop one for both the Stebel and PIAA aftermarket horns. Hopefully, they will both work with same bracket !

Will keep everyone informed as to progress...

Jim,
Let me know what you find out, I have my new horns but it will be a few weeks before I get a chance to mount them. It would be nice to mount them off the original brackets on my GT. let me know if you have any canbus issues.

Jim,

I have the Stebel for my GT and you can count me IN when you produce the bracket.

Please add me to the list.

picking up my GT on Saturday.

Don't know how long it will be before I have the kit ready.

Can't be that hard, biggest delay for me will be metal shop and coating time...

The kit will of course be black anno & 100% corrosion free, w/SS hardware..

Hopefully it will also work with both Stebel, or PIAA..

More later !

Count me in for a set. I have the horn, and I am "installation challenged" on bikes..
