You cannot go wrong with the item from e-bay for the buy now amount of $14 (including shipping).

Yep...the one off eBay. And while you're at it, order a powered USB hub. Make sure it comes with the wall wart for powering the hub. Or, at least get yourself a USB extension cable.

I want to add a usb 2.0/firewire card to my computer
my external hard drive is very slow on USB 1
I found this
I had issues with TWO of these "generic" USB/Firewire cards on my motherboard (Soyo P4S). The on-board USB ports interfered with it's operation (even when I disabled it) to such a point that I was dropping frames on the firewire ports when transferring video (XP pro, all updates, all updated drivers).
I "splurged" ($35) for an Adaptec card and have had ZERO issues with speed or compatibility with my existing setup.
Good luck!
