USGP Hotel??

Does anyone have a "Hot line"on rooms for the GP(Monterey,Calif.) in July. I am not having much luck. Spent 375+ a night last year w/o AC and that sucked! Anybody from here planning on going? Thanks.

I am going and have rooms booked in Salinas (sorry, all the beds are taken). Monterey, Seaside and Marina sell out first and tend to be the most expensive. Check around Salinas (12 miles from the track), Watsonville (25 miles from the track), Gilroy (35 miles from the track), and Soledad (also 35 miles form the track). But at this point rooms are going to be scarce, and you're likely to pay through the nose for them.

And don't just trust the online chain websites, either. Even if they show sold out or high prices call the hotel directly and try to book through them, and a little conversation and "sweet talking" may help get a lower rate from the folks behind the counter. I saved $130 a night for the rooms I have this year by doing that, and also by booking rooms the day the dates were announced before the price "gouge" rolled from the corporate sites all the way down to the local properties. And even after losing my rooms last year due to a crappy hotel chain dropping an even crappier property, and never telling me they canceled my reservations :mad: , I scrambled around and found rooms 2 weeks before the races by calling a lot of places that claimed to be full, and ended getting rooms $80 a night cheaper than they had originally gone for online.
