From the Jan. 2007 BMW Owners News, p. 76: "... Kevin, my GPS guru friend at home had warned me that the GPS would not always show things as clear or as accurately as I might want them to be. Garmin doesn't make software for Morocco, so Kevin had me buy as many maps of the area as I could. He scanned them, using a giant scanner (he works at HP) and *** he made me my own electronic files from the maps ***. We planned our journey using those files *** and ultimately loaded them into my GPS *** ..." .

Wow! He scanned maps, made electronic files from them, and then loaded them into the GPS. Impressive.

Anyone on this list know how to do that? Care to share ???

I went down through Morrocco to the Algerian border last year (2006), on my LT, with BMW Nav II - once I got down to Africa, detailed mapping disapeared, but the base-line mapping (whole of the world on a Nag II/2610 )is more than adequate

Looks weird - I shall make a point of watching it. Found North Africa amazing - we could stop in the middle of an empty desert for a ciggy break, and within minutes, the bikes were surrounded by people - totally friendly & inquisitive - lord knows where they came from. They were so pleased to see foreigners
coming to their country, despite whats happened in recent years, it was very moving.

I know, unless you see it, you canīt believe it.

Buses stop in the middle of nowhere, women get off and start walking into the distance, and you wonder where they are going.

To anyone who has not been to Morocco, donīt think twice.

As far as theft is concerned It is probably as safe as anywhere I have been, and the people, if you treat them with education and amiability, are the freindliest and polite as you will find anywhere.

Wooly, going to Sicily this Easter.
