For those who are new to CCR, it looks like there will be a new function introduced in 2007 just for you!

We are in process of putting together some sort of meeting whose purpose is to let you know what's available, how to find out anything, who to ask about anything, and how to avoid being 'meese'd' or 'just joe'd'.

In short, everything you never really wanted to know about CCR but were smart enough not to ask about!

Stay tuned for details as they become worth hearing....or being ignored!

Since this is my first one, I think that is a great idea.
Ive heard the Navy has a few crazy things to do to first timers.
Mabe have us crawl on our bellies during the banquet. Or drink weird potions from the official toilet bowl....... Or mabe not...... :rotf:

Thanks!:stir:And I hope you don't. My hope is that our CCR leadership is way too mature to implement some kind of initiation rite -- unless it's the usual warm handshake or friendly hug, "welcome to CCR", and all-around good time that we've come to expect. :)

And don't forget to demonstrate the secret LT wave, first adapted by the Grifster back in 2000!! ;)

Wonder if Grif has come up with a GT wave yet??

Hey, Jay - with Grif being Chairskin this year, I wonder if Dragon has checked with Tan-Tar-A to see if they have any elevators*?!?!?! :histerica ;)

*(Inside joke for the CCR first-timers; I know Dragon still remembers the *ride*? Just ask him!! ).

Just because I know the history of the elevators, also, I can say that TTA DOES NOT have elevators for the general public!

I have already asked!!:o :o

Jay, Don't tell Howard about that special initiation rite we were talking about just for him at lunch this past Saturday. :thumb:

Many years ago I survived the Golden Dragon initiation (mariners will know what that is) in the Bering Sea, and I survived 2 nights sharing a room with Joe at CCR 2006.

the secret LT wave
Would that have anything in common with the biker leg wave so frequently seen on the Boulevard Peripherique and other continental roads???

I think the 1st timer idea is great - as a 1st timer myself! And, I just ordered a new bike, which I'm hoping to pick up in February - a Piedmont Red R1200RT and it's LOADED! :bmw: Should be nicely run in by the time I get to Tan-Tar-A...

Hi, Brian --- good news on picking up the Piedmont Red RT. That'll be a great ride in the Ozarks of MO and Northern AR.

LT secret wave? I've no idea what the biker leg wave is (around here we use a leg to point out road trash or somethang on the road that needs avoided), butt the LT secret wave consists of throwing your hand (either one, butt the left is most common) up under your chin, palm down and fingers pointed straight ahead - then wiggle fingers up and down in a 'wave' motion. Grif came up with this leetle recognition feature after driving la trucka in Houston and couldn't get the attention from an LT rider that he saw. Figgered the wave would be a good way for LT riders to greet each other, whether both were on a scoot; on different scoots; or in cages. Guess now we could call it the secret CCR wave? Or the BMW dot net wave? Or leave as is .....

Somebody needs to do their avatar, or sig-line in an animated LT secret wave?!?!

In Europe the leg wave is an acknowledgement or greeting. If someone moves over to let you pass you wave a leg at them on their side, for example. Bikers travelling in opposite directions will normally wave the left hand - could be waved in any direction, even a simple raising of the fingers if taking hands off the bars at the time wouldn't be a good idea.

Of course in the UK we ride on the correct side of the road :D so hand waves aren't used (throttle release isn't always a good idea and that's the brake hand) and leg waves aren't common so we have the 'biker nod'. There is a LOT of discussion about that and who nods to whom and when in the UK biker boards. Should the passenger nod when two up, or should there be a combination of rider nod and passenger wave? What if the passenger is looking the other way and doesn't wave/nod - is that an insult? Oh boy.....the problems of biking etiquette....

Hello Everyone,
This will be my wife's and my first CCR. My brother went last year for his first time and just loved it. He and his wife still talk about everyone they met and how he learned so much about his 2005 LT and even learned about getting the most from his ride. I purchased my 99 Lt in January and living in the northeast I won't ride before April. Oh well, I look at her everyday and looking forward to taking her out. Snow here as I type. Can't wait to enjoy everything that you are talking about...

David, welcome to you and your special bride. Glad to hear you'll be joining your new friends in MO!
I noticed from your profile (BTW, thanks for filling it out ) that you are, among others, an EMT. Are you also certified as Instructor?

Jay,

Larry Ishmael here. Sorry I could not do a thing on legislation, but next year would work better for me in that regard. Meanwhile, keep me on the list of first timers, and also someone interested in the riding classes. My LT is a little more difficult to maneuver at slower speeds than I expected due to my being a bit height challenged.

All the best,

Larry

Have you gone to the CCR website and signed up for the MSF Experienced rider calss yet? The cut off date is the end of this month and there were, at my last look, just a few more slots available! It's first come, first served for that registration!

As for the First-Timer Get-Together session, it will be Wednesday morning, register at the door, and all are welcome! We will have an interesting and hopefully informative program for all.

You are sure to enjoy your first CCR, and I look forward to meeting you. I looked up Pachuca on the internet, and see that is a beautiful old city that I'd like to visit someday. Have a safe trip.
