This post is to see if any of y'all have interest in a self defense class at CCR. I think this class is a value to anyone and especially to the ladies we all love so dear. It's a three hour class and the Kubaton is part of the deal.
I was given a demonstration of what this leetle device can do while in the parking lot of a Hooter's in Waco, TX. Very effective and I was begging for mercy in the matter of seconds. I woman of 100 lbs. can bring a 300 lb. man down to his knee's easily.
If you're interested in this, please respond in this post. If there's enough interest, we'll see if we can get Jerry out long enough to teach:histerica
Thank you for asking me about my Key Chain Self-Defense course for the C.C.R..
Being prepared for a situation can be anything from simply seeing or thinking ahead, to violent resistance. Both are skills that need to be taught, or experienced. Teaching someone to think or be aware is easy, but for the most part teaching any form of “dependable” self-defense can take years. Most weapons require skills that take months of teaching and practice to perfect and have enough confidence to be used.
In all my years of learning and teaching martial arts and other forms of self-defense, I would have never considered anything as simple as a key chain to be a defensive weapon, but couldn’t believe how easy and quick it is to learn to use effectively, by anyone, of any age, sex, size, physical condition, or martial arts experience. While looking for a practical tool to instruct female police officers to carry I learned about a form of non-lethal self defense with a key chain being taught to police officers at the Los Angeles Police Academy. I attended the two-week training seminar and became an instructor in “Key Chain Self-Defense.” This experience was most noteworthy because I came home with more bruises than I did after the entire six months of law enforcement academy.
I returned to my agency and taught the female police officers in the use of the key chain. Several of the male officers requested training it its use after seeing the females use the tool and before long the entire agency was trained, carrying, and using the new tool. Since that time I have instructed hundreds of police officers and civilians in the use of a key chain for self defense. Normally the class fee is $99.00 per student, $85.00 for groups, but for C.C.R. members I would be willing to give them special pricing of $70.00.
History: Grand Master Takayuki Kubota originally brought the Key Chain Self Defense to the United States, from Japan. Kubota was an undercover police officer in post war Japan and was involved in fighting the street gangs who were very proficient with knifes. The police were not allowed to carry firearms at the time, so they had to rely on their own wits to protect themselves and fight crime. Kubota designed three weapons for use and two are commonly carried by police officers all over the world to this day. The first was a side-handled baton called a “Yawara” and the second was a smaller black stick (which evolved into a key chain) he named a “Kubaton.” Kubota later joined the Los Angeles Police Department and became a self-defense instructor at their academy
Thanks again

I was curious just what a Kubaton is so I googled it and came up with this
http://www.selfdefenseproducts.com/kub.htm
The first problem I see is that it "is considered a weapon" and as soon as you put it in your pocket
(or purse) it becomes a "concealed" weapon,
depending upon the interpretation of the arresting officer,
you might get away with carrying it for a long time
but I would suggest that you don't try to take it on an airplane.
Call me skeptical but if I'm going to carry a concealed weapon it will be a Sig.

Most of the examples they show on this site are in fact weapons and would be considered a concealed weapon by all L.E.O. Their sharp or pointed edges insure that. What I teach is a self defense technique with a simple key chain, period. No sharp edges, no sharp points, just a simple black plastic stick with a key ring at one end. You don't need the other stuff, trust me. You will be amazed at what the smallest woman can do to a hulk of a man with this simple little black stick. Now days TSA would probably frown on it coming on board on your person, simply because someone like me could convert the Pope to Paganism with this little tool :histerica and they have learned that because my class is becoming more and more popular. So, I always check mine in my luggage. However, what you will learn in the class is how to use other things that are just as effective and TSA has no issues with, because there may be other times your keys are not handy, beside just flying. FYI, I go with the Kimber too. :) This isn't a weapons class, it is just a self defense class taught with an every day item.
Grif forgot to mention that with the class you get the three hours of hands on instruction (the part where you beat the crap out of each other--husband and wife do not work as a team during this exercise :D ) , a copy of my book, your very own key chain, and don't forget the ever popular "Certificate suitable for framing" too. :rotf:

I'm interested in the class. I'll talk with my co-rider to see if she's interested, too; will let you know about that.
One complaint, though: Where was this class when I needed it (CCR 2006)? I could have used it while sharing a room with Joe -- I would have been able to sleep with both eyes closed. :histerica

David,
One of the guys in that photo on the other thred has his "Thing" out and Grif got all kinds of excited and had to be subdued. It got pretty ugly there for a couple of minutes. Pain is a wonderful distraction. :histerica

I was on the wrong end of that kubaton at Hooter also along with Grif. It is a very effective tool for any one to use. Sammie and I would love to take the class. Jerry hooked it behind my ear lobe and I did whatever he wanted me to do

I'm perfectly proficient at shooting a variety of handguns, rifles, and shotguns, and even loading my own ammo. But you can't walk around packing a rifle everywhere you go, or even a handgun for that matter. There's a difference between being aware of your surroundings and knowing your own skills and limitations, and being paranoid and loaded with attitude. Preparing for trouble is one thing, but actively looking for it is quite another.
If a gun is the ultimate solution, why not extend the theory? Even an idiot in a SUV beats a motorcycle, every time. In that case, we should all be driving Humvees.
I'd be glad to continue the discussion in person. Just not in an elevator, please. :)

Thanks:cool: Now it's just up to Jeff. And I don't think I want his job trying to keep that list updated. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/134.gif I keep forgetting about all the work he does to keep the CCR site updated. Thanks Jeff. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-033.gif

Okay gang,
This thread was started in an attempt to get a count of people who would like to take the class. Due to my other occupation (Professional Pet Sitter) I have to be able to justify to the better half why I am cutting out on a major holiday to go play...I mean work, yeah work that's it...work :D
To insure my "Kitchen Pass" I need to know that at least fifty attendees are going to take the course to show my wife that I am really truly working. Quit laughing!!! Plus I will have to make some schedule adjustments with all my employees for that holiday pretty quick. So, if you would like to take this course please speak up now, so I can start making my plans (also known as begging). If you haven't yet, please talk it over with your better half and see if they would be interested. If you have any questions about it please PM me. Thanks!!!
I promise you no one has ever gotten killed in my class....yet anyway :p
This class is a lot of fun and you will learn about an easy tool to use. I need to see some serious numbers here, so...you wanna take the course...or what? ;)
