New twist on Ride to Eat (RTE)

Here's an idea I just had. Might need to let it grow a bit first, though. Since we are all in so many different places, and we all like to eat, how about this idea for a "ride to eat": I noticed my new GPS is capable of searching specific food places, like BARBECUE and I'm a sucker for 'cue. So we set a date and all go to a BBQ place of our choosing. If possible, we can meet up, but I was thinking it would be neat to set the GPS for a BBQ place, go eat there, and then report back here on our findings. THEN, when we are traveling, we can use the findings to locate the better eateries or avoid the ones that turn out to be a bust.

Sorta like a "cyber RTE". WE all try to do it on the same day at lunch or dinner time. Whaddayas think? Of course, I'll probably be the one who won;t be able to make it on the appointed day..... :rolleyes:

Good idea Randy but your BBQ in NC is probably better than ours here in PA and my wife may not appreciate me taking an overnighter for dinner. :)

There's another feature that's really handy on a gps too. I've been on trips where I used the search feature you're talking about to find a hotel. When you do that you can then use the "Find Near" feature to see if there's restaurants near the hotel you're looking at. Great when you're away from home.

That's what I am looking forward to now that I have GPS. being able to find stuff without guessing. WE've been to the Honda Hoot in Knoxville several years in a row and still manage to get lost.

Part of the fun of this exercise would be finding the different results from different areas. Some people say we cook the wrong animal in NC. I say beef is for burgers, Pork is for Q....

Then again, most people are not as adventurous as I am when it comes to eating. Most of the time, I let the waitress order my food for me. They usually know what's best. Dad used to say, "Joe would eat the north end of a south-bound skunk!". And I'd reply, "Only if it's prepared properly!" :D

As for your idea, it's interesting and original. But it may only translate for you suthurn boys that eat 'Q' every time you step foot outside the house. The best 'Q' I've had in Ohio was prepared 10 feet east of my back door. ;)

But limiting to bbq would/could open the door to other RTEs for different foods. I thought of no limits. Heck , it's our idea to play with. I'm just hoping to find good food references for future use.

I like to tell the wait person to surprise me, too. Of course, sometime you get the skunk prepared wrong.....

I sent a recommendation for Snappy Lunch, to at least get NC on the map. They do a Pork Chop sandwich that is awesome. Should come with a free angioplasty. Not for the weak! Not for anyone in a hurry either, 'cause you'll want a nap afterwards.

If traveling thru Mount Airy, should try Goober's 52 also. Very eclectic menu, great beer, funky atmosphere. No relation, other than name, to the Andy Griffith show.

Haven't found any 'roo here in the US, except at Jack in the Box hamburgers. ;) Remind me, though, before you head this way and I'll see what we can do for you. My CRS seems to be flaring up again.

BTW, you bringing the bike or hitchin' a ride on the silver bird? Lots of great riding down here, especially in Spring when we're starting to warm up a bit.

They are good! WE do that about once a year; about all the system can take. Gotta load it up with the chili, mustard, onions, and slaw, too.

People actually get on bus tours just to eat there. Used to be where the downtown employees would eat and you could always get a seat. Now ya gotta wait in a line to eat there. I only stop if no line. Also makes a great breakfast biscuit if you;re in town early in the morning. Go for the tenderloin.
