FYI -
The is a company that has developed a fault code reader for the GS called GS-911 http://www.hex.co.za/gs911/faqs.html
There is a group buy being put together at http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189421

Fair enough for the GS crowd, but if you can find one for the LT let us know.

hi Dave,
I would like to investigate the option for the K's as well - however I'm not promising anything ;-) - I would need to spend some time wiht the K's (which I haven't yet) to investigate them...
Do you know anyone who is really tech savvy on the k's that could tell me what ECU they are using etc ?
kind regards
Stephan

I believe it is the Motronic MA2.4 from the what few references I've seen on the web. Of course web wisdom often turns out to be web bulls**t. It doesn't seem logical to me that the same motronic unit would be used in both the R and K bikes.

Thanks Dave. I remember some discussion by one of the more technical members about counting pulses on a multimeter or oscilloscope IIRC. Beyond my expertise I'm afraid. To have access to the fault codes as per service centers would be great, all I know is where the plug is. Just had a hunt around and remembered Fremm from Norway. HTH

Sorry about the link, but a copy and past seems to work.

Ok - Found a link to the GS-911 then came back to this forum to see if it had been discussed. There web site seems to indicate that it now works with the K1200LT. Has anyone here tried it? What are your opinions about it?

They have a beta version of the software that supports the K1200LT in the model years that do not have CANBUS. Here (http://www.hex.co.za/gs911/functionchart.html) is a link to their functionality chart. I just received my GS-911 a couple of days ago but I haven't had any time to actually hook it up to either my GS or LT yet. I have gotten the beta software and USB drivers loaded on my laptops without any problems. I will give it a try today and see how it works on both of them.

I tried out my GS-911 on both my LT and GS and everything seems to be working correctly. It was able to communicate with both bikes and reported the engine controller information on both bikes. It even reported out a fault on my LT that on 146 occasions my O2 sensor was reported shorted but that there is no fault reported now. I was able to clear this error and the unit then reported no faults. I took it for a ride and checked the fault codes again and it reported no faults.
I checked my GS and it reported no faults on any of the diagnostic checks of which there are four sets; engine, ABS, central vehicle electronics and instrument cluster.
The GS-911 menu shows an engine and ABS diagnostic for the LT but I have a 2000 so there are no ABS diagnostics for this model year. The software is easy to use. I bought the USB model and not the Bluetooth version. I don't have a cell phone with the required java compatability. This is not a problem for me because I have a compact Fujitsu Lifebook laptop that I take with me on trips. The GS-911 unit is very compact and light so it will pack very easily.
I had been watching for the Touratech diagnostic reader availability in the US but Touratech says they might not import it because they have not had many requests for it. At about $700 and a viable cheaper option like the GS-911 I guess I can see why.
