I have not found a place on my GT to install my escort 8500 that I am thrilled with. Anyone have any clever ideas?

Brian,
Best application in my opinion is to mount it on the Big Mak Equipment Rack. Keeps it up in line of sight and the rack mounts without having to to drill any new holes. Don't know if you remember seeing mine.

If you are interested in this rack, I have a new one, never installed. I have the Gadget Guy mounting system. Let me know, knock 25 bucks off the price of it.

John,
Do you have a pic of the rack? I looked at Jeff's GT with blind eyes because I did not want to be tempted into buying one. Well guess what, Some things you just can't fight.

I did a search of the rack and it looks nice, But I am looking for something a little more stealthy. I have made my own custom mini dash rack for my detector, But I am trying to check out all options before I break out the drill. I thought of going the route some one else came up with about mounting under the left hand fairing. But not having access to change modes and to mute killed that idea.

IRC there was an article about a hidden mounting of a radar detector on a GT (it may have been a K1200S) a few months ago in BMWon.

http://www.bmwlt.com/gallery/files/1/8/5/radarboxsm.jpgGrif, doesn't this middle front location interfere with your detector ability to cover your back??? I remember reading about mounting on either side to give the detector a "rear" view without your body interfering...

I've never had a problem with it, even on the LT. 6 1/2 years on a BMW without a ticket and I don't exactly mosey around. I'm sure it takes out rear laser, but I'm sure the LEO will let me know if he wants me to stop:D

Hey Grif,
Your install and custom box looks great. Is the box all plastic with black paint? And where did you route the wires? Do they go behind the instrument cluster?

The V1 only detects laser from the front by design. as for rear facing radar you'd have to be pretty thick and made of lead to block a radar hit from behind. Now, that plate in your head might cause a problem or two...:rotf:

Si, it's plexiglass, glued together with silicone on the inside edges and then rattle canned. The instrument bezel comes off by the two screws on top and two latches underneath. Then routed behind the instrument cluster.

Hari, welcome to the forum - I like the CBX on your website (I used to work in Valparaiso, and stay in a hotel, built on a rock in the ocean at Vina del Mar !!)

I 'second' the BMA rack. I currently have my Garmin 2720 on it. This weekend I'm going to slide it to the right and mount my new V1 on the rack as well.

Grif, you need to email Mark and get the stabilizing braces for your rack. Unless you don't mind it bouncing like that. (Maybe it doesn't bounce with just a V1 on it?)

Thanks Grif, I have had the cluster out already but did not remember if and where to snake the wires thru it.
Hari, That was great pictorial, I could not understand all the words but your pictures sure explained a lot. Your Gt is starting to get fitted out like a LT!

It doesn't bounce around with just the V1 and Garmin puck.

I need to get out in my gearage and make your box!
