The price on this used 2730 seems to low to be true. The seller has 18 sales and has a 100% rating thusfar.
What is the catch? Good? or Bad?

it's an auction. That price will go up for sure. The winning bid will probably have to be posted in the last 20-30 seconds. That's how ebay usually works...

I simply won't ever tour again without a GPS. I'm just hoping I feel the same way about my recent Valentine One purchase.

...you should read Garmin's FAQ Link (http://www.garmin.com/support/faqs/) about eBay sales. Scroll down, its the 2nd topic.
There have been issues with registration, updates, stolen units, etc.
But, once you do get one, you'll wonder how you've lived without it for so long! :D

Just as you said. I put in a bid and the price went up to $280 before I became the high bidder. I do have some experience with this less than 30 second bidding. I have lost out on some inexpensive, used Thule bike racks this past summer.
For about $300 I do not think I am stepping out on a limb too far. If I am and ended up with trouble w/ this device...well...nothing is assured anymore except death and taxes...right!?
I expect this number to go up and I will wait for another day and time.

Take it from an experienced eBay'er...don't ever bid on an item until the last minute. All that you're doing by bidding any earlier is driving the selling price UP. Decide what you're highest bid should be and bid only ONCE. Don't let other bidders change you're mind by getting into a bidding war. Sellers love this! But in the end of a bidding war, all of the bidders lose. Even the "winner".

I agree with you. More than anything else I was a little curious what the pending winning bidder set up for his max. I found it at $275. I was willing to go above that only because I know that the bids will change at the very end. At that point I will make my decision to "really go for it."
It is good to be reminded about these matters because the brain can easily be pushed off to the side by greed and desire!

Wasn't there some recent discussion about changing eBay so that if there are any bids in the last few minutes of an auction then the auction time automatically gets extended? I guess they figure that will kill the sniping and get folks to keep bidding as long as there is interest, sort of like a live auction.

I hope you are right! As it is now, ebay has turned into something other than what it started out to be. The bidding process is a joke for many of the goods offered for sale because the "real bidding" occurs only in the last couple of minutes. Everything leading up to that last minute is meaningless.

I've also noticed many folks setting a really high opening bid, then adding a "Buy It Now" price just a few dollars higher. That just sets it up as an open store, rather than a true auction. But as long as eBay keeps making their commissions, then I guess there really isn't a problem.

I enjoy Clement Salvadore's articles too. Is there any other publication (like a book) by him that you would recommend? I receive a couple of motor-mags containing his stuff but I am interested in more!
I am, at this moment, in a coffee shop in Cape Girardeau, Missouri while my 1200RT receives its 600 mile service. I live in the St. Louis area about 100 miles north. I am anxious to get that bike out on a twisty road leading toward home and experience life on the other side of 4000RPMs! :D :yeah:

The only book I know about is Motorcycle Journeys Through California & Baja (http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_info.php?products_id=5493), which is more of a travel planning guide than a series of essays. A Google search turns up a few more of his articles, some of which are quite interesting.

I have that book and Clem has stirred a desire to tour California. Someone should convince Clem to write a book on his favorite and most memorable trips. Or, to pull into one book many of his articles.
Thanks again,
