Greetings knowers of all things GPS/K1200KT related.

I am humbled by your collective knowledge...

First, the facts:

2006 K1200LT
Dealer installed BMW Navigator III
Navigator III ='s SP2820 (right?)
Most recent GPS software updated tonight to v3.30
Voice Language: Austrailian English - Karen v1.30
I DO NOT have any sort of Traffic subscription or XM radio/FN radio antenna
Mapsource software v 6.11.5

Second, my question:

Looking at the PDF user's manual for the SP2820, I should have a 'music player' option when I select 'tools' from the main menu. All I do have is the following:

-GPS Info
-My Data
-Trip Computer
-Traffic Info
-Turn List (Grayed out as I am not navigating a route)
-Compass

So... is a NAVIII unit ALMOST a SP2820?
Did I miss something when I uploaded the Mapping software on my computer?
What am I missing? I have no trouble moving route data back and forth from my computer to the GPS unit.

Anything you could tell me would help. The sky isn't falling... okay... it IS raining a little bit here in Central Cal... anyway, I can still ride so this isn't a big deal really, I was just hoping to listen to MP3s and leave my IPOD at the house.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just downloaded the manual for the NavIII (http://www.garmin.com/products/manual.jsp?product=010-00517-00). I cannot find any music player.

Joe gave you the short answer and it would appear that the NAVIII unit is not = to a 2820 or a 2730 for that matter!!

The long answer is . . .

2820 (NAV III) highlights are:
2D & 3D Maps
Bluetooth
MP3 Player
FM Wireless Transmitter
XM NavTraffic
XM Radio (GXM 30 Antenna not included) - 3mm stereo line out jack
FM TMC traffic alerting
Remote Control

2730 highlights are (unit discontinued) :( :
2D & 3D Maps
MP3 Player
FM Wireless Transmitter
XM Radio (GXM 30 Antenna included) - 3mm stereo line out jack
XM Traffic
XM WX Satellite Weather
Remote Control

Bruce,

I heard, and my dealer confirmed, that a "new" Nav III (Nav IV ?) is coming out in Spring 2007.

I would not be surprised that it includes some sort of mp3, as this seems to be the main complaint of purchasers of the Nav III, saying that it lacks things that come standard with the 2820.

Maybe you could get an upgrade if so.

SimonBut if the rumors are true, the Nav IV is going to be based off of the Zumo. If that's the case...no thanks! The limits/flaws of the Zumo are starting to be reveiled with each passing new post.

Joe, I agree there.

Maybe Garmin/BMW are listening.

Thanks for all of your replys. Evidently, I'm doing nothing wrong. Go figure, the leading edge motorcycle company would buy only 7/8's of the latest and greatest Garmin product! Thank goodness I have an Ipod for long distance tunes. Being in the central San Juanquin Valley in CA, I don't really have much use for the traffic doo-dad anyway.

Cheers!
