View Full Version : Maybe A Nice Problem To Have...

Have made some mods to my '06 GT, seat, lowering pegs, etc. and have eaten some crow about the GT as a LD touring bike. I think with these mods I can do the 800+ mile days if I have to; the seating a tad more aggressive, but the handling, acceleration, etc. are so much fun on the GT that I keep wondering about keeping the LT. I had it for sale some time ago, {'05 with just about every bell and whistle, perfect) but my son expressed interest in taking up riding, was going to give it to him, that didn't pan out. Garage space not a problem but in the back of my mind I keep thinking that I may not ride the LT much anymore? I know many of the folks on this site that once they got the GT and did some miles, well, they sold their LT's.
Perhaps if I knew it was going to some good home? Probably a 'silly' post, trying to figure what to do!http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif

My LT just recently went to a very good home. A local Deputy Police Chief in the DFW area picked up mine a few weeks ago. I was a little sad to see it go, but since I knew it was going to a good home made me feel better.

You hit the nail on the head Jeff. I tend to be a 'packrat', and the motto of a compulsive personality is, "If you NEED one, then you really need TWO." And it's such a great tourer, but I know I have to force myself to ride it when the GT's sitting next to it.
The 'good' home is important to me.
Happy New Year!

Frankly, I'm a little more than just "upset" that you haven't offered the LT to me yet. :( Why do you consistantly choose your son over me? What has he ever done for you? He's just a sponge. A mooch!!! When are you going to wisen up John?! You want your LT to have a good home? . . . just say the word and I'll fly down and ride her home. :D :D :D
Tell ya what. I'll sweeten the deal. Since you seem to like these little blood-suckers so much . . . I'll trade you your LT for my kid. He's 14, a pleasant disposition, loving and caring, blah blah blah. Frankly, I ain't buying it! I know that at any given minute he could turn his back on me! :(
(O boy! My "fans" are really going to like this post!) :rotf:

Throw in Ms. Pauley (can she cook?), keep the 14 year old, and it's a done deal!http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif
I had a buyer, I think in the spring, and then my son got some interest, but never followed up on it, never rode, etc. I tell you tho' Joe, while I ate serious/tough crow on the K-Bikes thread I would miss the big beast. Looming in the back of my mind is (and remember, you are a youngun, you and eljeffe) when all the rest fail and some body part starts complaining, I could always hop on the LT. And, who knows, BMW may just get out of that LD touring market; and while I rarely comment negatively on cycles, I just cannot warm up to the Wing!
Happy New Year and with regards to the HID on the GT.
I'm gonna have to either come to Ohio or Texas; I saw the pix that Grif posted and all of those parts, springs, washers, retaining blah, blahs, and all I could think of was putting parts in a box, rolling the GT on the trailer, schlepping down to BMW Daytona with my AMEX card, begging forgiveness, and pleading for them to put it together again. Halogen ain't that bad!http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

And, who knows, BMW may just get out of that LD touring marketHey John, there will come the day when I buy another LT for riding LD 2-up with the wife. I can't ride fast with her on the back anyway. Between the screaming in my ear, and the poking of the rib cage, how's a guy supposed to keep a bike on the road?! :D
...with regards to the HID on the GT. I'm gonna have to either come to Ohio or Texas...If you decide to wait, I'll be riding pretty close to FL late April. I've installed 2 HID kits on-the-road so far...just say the word. :)

Can't remember who the farkle king is on the LT site (David Taylor???), anyhow, thanks so much for the offer! More likely than not I'll pay the exorbitant price for the BMW one at the dealer and/or do nothing. I have this crazy idea in my head that I wanted the new K12R Sport coming out in March. Well, there are too many things I like about the GT that I just may not be willing to forego. E.g. I had the 12S and while it was indeed a great bike, not so much for me and my riding style. Anyhow, back to the point. I may pick up an '07 or '08 (maybe black???) GT with all of the stuff on it (most of which, like yourself don't give a rat's _ _ _ for), get the silve 12S wheels (you may not know I have K12S spider wheels in graphite on my GT), strip off the panniers and fool myself into thinking I have a GT sport bike. Now, of course this begs the interesting question, why, John. You already have a GT, how hard is it to take off the bags/topcase. Uhhhh, I hate intelligent questions!http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif
If I throw in the R12GS, will that sweeten the pot for Ms. P.?

Can't remember who the farkle king is on the LT site (David Taylor???)I think you're referring to one Mr. Dave Dragon. And he's probably not too too far from you. And, he would enjoy doing it. (Gotta love the way I just volunteered him like that!!!) :D
you may not know I have K12S spider wheels in graphite on my GTDid not know. Got pics? :)
If I throw in the R12GS, will that sweeten the pot for Ms. P.?Long story shortened...back in 5th grade I took one look at Alicia and told my best bud, "I'm going to marry that girl.". About 10 years later, I did just that. Now 21 years later, I'm kinda used to having her around. Besides, what other women would let me do the things I do?! ;)

Here's the link to the Pix. These are the Dark Graphite wheels off of a 12S. Bigger wheels and matches brake dust. Some like them, others do not. I do. I also removed the 12GT insignia on tank side; I just leave the topcase on now and the heck with the BMW tail bag. Hell, it's a tourer with gusto, for me.

Prior to your getting your GT I believe. BTW, it was 42 years for me Dec 26th. Also, I remember the day you posted that Alicia?/your so said why don't you go ahead! Hard to find women like that!

VERY cool! I like it a lot! :yeah:
Unfortunately, I'm too used to having at least the saddlebags on almost all of the time. I did manage to ride the Cherohala Skyway without the bags though.

Enjoyed seeing your GT. How do you like that exhaust. Worth it? Wheels look good too.
I love my GT, now almost 5,000 miles. Much more fun than the LT, especially in traffic.

I think the S wheels with wider tire a nice addition, but more for my personal likes and 'something' to do to be different. Some have told me they are ugly . . . but, personally don't care. Also, a dream to keep clean as they are 'brake dust gray' color! Can't say my riding style needed bigger wheels; the Remus is great. Allegedly dropped 12 lbs and the exhaust note to die for. Too bad I didn't wait a bit as now Remus has the 'full' exhaust system. Oh well.
Thank you for nice words.

a "FULL" remus system
hmmmmm
i wonder:
1. what the advantage will be over just replacing the can (bmws historically do NOT benefit that much from full system replacements, UNLIKE their japanese sportbike counterparts)
2. how my dealer will deal with the needed software update to run this full sytem...
3. if i need to buy a power commander iii/usb for my BMW.... like i have for my MV to properly tune this new system

Clean, John. The wheels blend with the color of the bike nicely!

So, one question, would you use the phrase "if I have to" when refering to making 600 miles on the LT? :)

Ight! Plus the additional insurance and reg fees for a second bike that I have no time to ride.
