I have a Signal Dynamics Backoff module on my led bar on the luggage rack. It works great and does not cause an abs error. It is off when no brakes and does its flashing routine when brakes are applied.

I want to make the led bar a tail light in addition to a brake light . How can I accomplish this? I am worried that if I run the actual tail light wire to the backoff module and then to the led bar that I will get an abs error.

The reason I want to do this is I feel that tall SUV might have a problem seeing the back of the LT unless the brakes are applied. I am a big believer in lots of light in the rear.

Don't know about the signal Dynamics module, but Kisan makes a plug and play module that plugs into your existing BMW top rack wiring behind the mirror. All you need to do is tap into a hot source either in the speaker area or the heated seat plug if you have it. I have an '02 with integrated ABS and no problems with it.

If you want to DIY it, a simple circuit can be used to light the LED bar at 1/2 power (I copied the idea from, IIRC, David Shealey).

All that's needed is a power feed from a switched power source to the LED rack (tapping into the LED rack hot wire downstream of the Backoff module), a resistor in the switched power lead to cut the voltage fed to the LED bar (about 200 Ohm as I recall, but I'd need to verify that), and a diode between the Backoff module and the point at which the switched power taps into the LED harness (to prevent back-flow of power into the Backoff module from the switched power lead).
