Walmart.com had the 2720 for $549. Got it. Now how do I make it work on the LT? I also want to use it on my ST1100.
I see a lot of discusssion about GPS mounts. Anyone ever just stick the Garmin mount on the forward part of the stingray?
What do I do with this power adapter / speaker thingy? Not going to do much good having a speaker mounted down by my foot. The text to speech thing is good, but I don't use an intercom or other helmet type speakers. I sometimes use an XM through modulator into the LT's FM radio. If an easy integration of the GPS is possible, I'd consider it, but I'm more likely to be interested in just a regular power cable with no other connections. Where can I get a plain power cable for the GPS?

Yeppir - that's where mine has been since 2000. I have the early version of the mounting piece. Stuck the oval double-sided adhesive pad thangy to the stingray; the oval slide-in-and-lock mounting thang to the pad; the GPS unit locks in to the mounting thang. Can swivel and tilt for alignment. Covers up the roundel tho!! :bmw:

Dick: Does that location interfere with reading any of the dash warning lights, or any other problems?

That's where mine is, I used the Garmin motorcycle mount & cable, and bought the bracket sold by BMW for the 2005, works great.

So Dick,
Are you saying that everything needed to mount the GPS to the stingray is in the box, or do you have to purchase some kind of mount?

I agree with Dick. I just stuck mine to the stingray with the "temporary mounting pad" that came in the box. There is also a "permenant mount" pad but I was hesitant to use it because of the precautionary statement that you should really make sure before you use the permant pad for it is not removable. The double sided temporary pad has worked for me since last Christmas.
It does block my vision of the "idiot" lights and turn indicators though. I chose that location to accomodate my bi-focals. Works well.

Hey Don, and Jerry --- sorry 'bout the delay in replying. Been un-decorating all day!!
That stingray mount location works fine for me - I see the bottom row of indicators. I'm 6'3" and prolly long from butt rest to eye-level. I have the oval mounting unit adhered with the permanent pad, and it's pointy ends aligned with the bikes centerline. One thang you might consider (try it for fit first) is mounting the pad sideways across the stingray, which should pull the GPS screen a leetle closer to the radio screen edge and away from the dash, and should allow you to see more of the lower dash area if you need to.
And Jerry - yeppir, I didn't buy anythang other than what came in the GPS box. I have since bought several more of the mounting units - one for the ole Blue truck, and one each for the two cages. However, couldn't bring myself to add GPS to the classics, cuz they're just driven around here to various car shows, etc. Sooo - I have an extra mount unit if you need one. Just lemme know and next time you're at Lone Star, I'll bring it over.

For my 2610 to mount on the LT I had to order the motorcycle mounting kit I got it from Cyclegadgets. It was a plastic cradle, power cord for hook up to battery, on the cord it had a 3.5 plug to go to a intercom. I mounted mine on the clutch cover housing that came with a ram ball (cyclegadgets also) then used a 3" ram arm to attach the cardle to the ram ball on the clutch cover. I like this setup for several reasons, one I don't have to look down to see the screen, another is the screen out of the sun so it doesn't reflect as much. I have since changed the cradle to a Touratech locking mount. Here are a few pic's so you can see it both ways the wire runs inside the handlebar covers. I don't have mine plummed into the speakers I just follow the on screen instructions, I hate them sqauking at me in the car all the time.
