First off I want to thank Tom Gallo for his hint on the front end. Don't have to undo that telelever nut from the ball joint. I had to do a new front tire anyway and with the wheel off and the brake lines loose from the forks it was a snap to get the old shock out.

With all that free it will slide down enough to get in and remove the rubber donut and the shock then will just clear the lip of the stiffener. The Ohlin went back in just as easy. It saves you from removing a 21 mm nut with green loctite in it!!! Thanks Tom.

Also if you remove the tank it makes access to the top of the shock much easier as well.

I just wish I had decided on the shocks before I did the 24K service last month. I got in on the AdvRider group buy and got them for about the same price as a pair of stock shocks from the stealer.

Now to get back to work and get the rest of the tupperware back on and try her out. I can't wait to see how much better she feels.

Ok here goes the first impression. I was not overly impressed by the new shocks. Were my old ones still good? Well first off I did not finish the job. I did not set the preload height IAW the provided Ohlins Manual. That will get done today. I know it is not set up right because I was on tip toes when I took her off the center stand. It was a clear day and 33 degrees (I now have Gerbings) and I just had to ride. She has way too much pre load so I am at the wrong end of the suspension travel.

On a better side - the wobble issue. It first appeared half way through my first (stock) front tire. I installed a new ME880 and it was still there. The rear was recent also. I looked at the tire and it was a bit out of round. I decided to continue to use it despite the wobble on deacceleration through 45 MPH, hands off the bars. As you may remember from my first post it was now time to install a new front again. Another ME880 and this one was NOT out of round but I was concerned about balancing it as I had never used more than 3/4 oz. on any tire change yet on this bike. I ended up using a whopping 1.73 oz on this one!!! Then I realised that was really not much and I was being a bit anal on this. Oh I almost forgot THE WOBBLE IS NOW GONE!!!:yeah: (and no I don't think the shocks had anything to do with the wobble)

So don't give up you wobblers out there the next set of tires will most likely cure the ill. Now to get back to setting up the Ohlins properly.

It's even easier if you remove the rear tire and jack the front of the bike up.
