Howdy.. I've had my first "problem" with my 2610 in over 2 years. During my ride home from Louisiana on Friday, the 2610 would "freeze" and the screen would seem to "chatter".. lots of "noise" on the screen, etc.
When this happened, I could not get the GPS to respond to any buttons. It seemed to happen just as it was "updating" the moving map.. no "intervention" on my part required.
To "recover" it, I had to turn it off for about 20 minutes, then reseat the CF Memory card..
Any thoughts on what could be going on here?
Peace..

My kneejerk is that it's not the unit that's failing, but the CF card. Try another CF card for awhile and see if it "fixes" it.

You're describing what my NAV II started doing,
without touching it the screen would start shaking left to right and switch screens on me,
sometimes I couldn't get out of it and would have to reboot the unit,
at first I thought it was a bad connection between the unit and the power cord,
I called Garmin (several times) they had never heard of my problem,
suggested I update the software (online) seemed like that fixed it for a couple of weeks,
then it started again, Garmin said send it in.

I had the same problem only when it was cold out (less than 40). It was like you were touching the screen all the time. I called Garmin and even though it was out of warranty by 4 months they issued me a WRA # and I got a new 2610. Give it a try.

Don't do the on-line thing. It is far better to talk to the guy on the other end. I was out of warranty (had a re-seller extened). Garmin on-line answer was contact your re-seller. Garmin phone guy issued a warranty RMA. Plus you may get lucky if they run out 2610s and get a 2720 like Joe did!!

I've also had the shaking thing on a Nav 2 happen several months ago and only once. Shut the unit down cleaned the screen (looked like there were some smudges on the display) don't know if this was the problem but, it works. At lease for the present time.
