Where the maps are preloaded for all of North America on the unit. When there is an update do you put the new update in your computer and down load it in the unit like when you have a Flash Card? I have a 2610 and mapsource 8. I have a chance to purchase a 2720 with mapsource 7 in it. Can I update it with my mapsource 8?

for software updates you connect your gps to the computer and update directly to the gps.............
if it's a mapsource update you update to your computer...............................

So you're 'all good'. :)

Thanks for the information. I thought I could use it for two units. Is the 2720 much better than the 2610. I would really like to have the 2820 but I do not know if it is worth the extra over the 2720.

I had the 2610, then it was replaced with the 2720. I love it! The new 3D interface is awesome! And the TTS (text to speech) feature rocks!

The 2820 is basically a 2720 but has BlueTooth, XM radio, and an .mp3 player built-in. If those things are important, get the 2820. If they are not, save the money.

Look at the 2730, too. I think they are the same and it's on sale for $559 at amazon.

LewisNot that it matters too too much, but the 2730 has been discontinued by Garmin. It also does not have the TTS feature which I love. I don't know about BlueTooth. Does it have that?

Joe, my 2730 calls out the streets and the address it takes me to. Also it came with V7 NT, needs V8 New Technology when updating, not just V8, as I understand it. Barnett

It appears, that the 2730 also comes with XM radio, MP3 player and FM transmitter (the previous posts didn't make it clear).
The added Bluetooth feature on the 2820 allows wireless connection to a Bluetooth enabled headset to receive navigation from the unit and handfree cell phone use when paired with a compatible Bluetooth enabled phone.
