escort 8500 help

I bought a passport 8500 on ebay and it is coming with no power cord or instructions. Just a bare unit. I went to the manufactures website and downloaded the owners manual. I can not find which pin is for 12vdc and which is for the ground. I will use an extra phone cord I have laying around.

The center two wires on a 4 wire phone connector are the ones you use. If you look at the front of the connector with the locking pin down the center right hand wire is positive. The left center wire will be negative. If for some reason it won't turn on switch them. No harm will be done.

I just hooked up my Escort, I went right to my left front turn signal used the green wire and red wire off the phone cord goodie. Pretty easy.

Turn signal?????Sure, if you only speed while making turns. :D Actually, the newer LTs have dual-filament bulbs so that a running light wire is always hot. I'm sure that's what he meant.

LT? Will that model even brake the speed limit? (insert smiley here) Surely this is for the GT.

Is that a left turn or a right turn? Better yet, if hooked up to the brake lights the Escort would work while braking. :)

Yes, the LT will break the speed limit. I have documented proof. Actually just several warnings, but I'm OK with that. :)

And besides, usually you want the radar detector to come on just before you start braking. But if they could make it start braking just before the detector comes on, that would be even better. :D

I own two 8500 x50's and one v1 and have been very impressed with all three but having gotten used to the v1 it is hard to get used to not knowing if the bogey is in front of or behind me when not using the v1. I also notice that the escort does not pick up radar from the rear unless it bounces off somthing in front of me. So I never know if I've got a week signal from the front or a strong signal from the rear. I bought the extra escort to go on the bike as a stealth mount under the headlight though I have yet to install it. I think the best bang for the buck is the V1 though I can see the benefit of the Bel with the volt meter.
I don't think the non v1 units have rear facing radar reception though they all claim laser protection from the rear....little good that does. Regarless they don't tell you where it's coming from....I like to know as rear visibility on a bike isn't what it is in a cage.

Has anyone hard wired the Escort on an RT? Are there other options besides straight to the battery? Thanks
