Looking to get coordinates from Garmin Street Pilot III entries in address list; same for my Magellan 800.

I would also like to be able to do the reverse, which is to key the coords into the unit and have it route me there.

Anyone know how to do this? Unable to find out how using the manuals.

Thank you.

I think I understand what you're asking Officer Sir. :)
But first...license and registration, please?
OK...OK...never mind! :D

I'm assuming that you use MapSource for your SPIII, and some other software for your Magellan 800. The first thing I would do is see if your Magellan software allows your to save and/or open .gpx files. I think it does support this type. If you can, than this is simple. Here's what to do...

Open a new session of MapSource and connect your SPIII.
Download all of your WayPoints into MapSource.
Now click on File at the top, then Save As.
When the window pops open asking where you want to save the file, look all the way at the bottom of that window and change the type of file to a .gpx file.
Now call the file whatever you want to, and save the file wherever you want to.
Now you should be able to run the Magellan software and point to that file and open it.

If that all works, you should be able to work in reverse using the Magellan software first, then opening the .gpx file in MapSource.

If none of this works, we'll go to PLAN B. (I always have a PLAN B!) :)

PM me if you need more help. Maybe a phone call will go a long way with this one.

Joe,

Thank you fort he info. Makes sense and I will try it to synch the two units.

What I am trying to do, however, is a little different. I want to be able to find out the coordinates for an address I have stored in the unit (either one) and be able to read it out. That way I could telephone you and tell you to meet me at a given lat/long fix.

By way of example, let's say we're on a trip, and we go our own ways for the day. One of us calls the other and says "meet me at [lat/long]." I want to be able to type in [lat/long] and route to you.

Clear as mud? Your signature is not an admission of guilt, just your promise to appear before the court on or before the date shown. PRESS HARD, FOUR COPIES. :)

Assuming that you dont have extradition rights from County Durham, UK :).....

Using Mapsource, you can either create waypoints or import/export them from/to your GPS units. If you then hit the waypoint tab, this gives you the Lat/Long of the waypoint. You can also create a 'dummy' waypoint, then type in the required Lat/Long co-ords into the 'position' field, this will then create a waypoint in the desired location.

I watched someone do it at a seminar, so I know there's a way. I've only owned the 2610 and 2720, which does you no good at all. :(

If you don't get the info soon, you might want to go sniff around at the GPSCity.com forum (http://www.hotgps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3).

Does this thread (http://www.bmwlt.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=K1200LT&Number=158686&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1) help you? Or maybe this one (http://www.bmwlt.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=K1200LT&Number=157667&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1)?
