Hey gang,

Newbie here... 99 k1200lt just added to the stable last sunday!, I would love to see some pictures of how you mounted your gps units to this model, and how you like the unit you chose... I am in the selection process and could use the input!

Mounting brackets here: http://www.touratech-usa.com

Co-Pilot shelves and other mounts here: http://bmrproducts.com/products.php?cat=1

I use the BMR Co-Pilot, BMR cross-bar, and Touratech SP-III bracket to mount my GPS. You could also do a RAM Mount with Touratech bracket.

I have a Tourtech with a Garmin 2600 and like the construction of the mount. Previously I owned a RAM and was always concerned that the GPS was going to fall off. The Tourtech that I use is the one listed on the Tourtech site for an LT with the appropriate mount for the 2600. It mounts in the hole on the handlebars that was for mirrors.

BMW Nag II with standard BM '4 extra button' mount - the GPS is similar to a Garmin 2620 but has additional firmware to cope with the 4 extra buttons - these replicate most of the 'touch screen' functions, so are handy with gloves on.

Don't do WHAT I did, but do it WHERE I did it. :D Please let me expound...

I bought an RMH visor for the dash of the LT long before I knew how to spell Gee Pee Ess. Well since I had the visor in place, when I got my first GPS, I just slapped it up on the visor and called it "good enough". It did wobble a bit, but I LOVED the placement of it. The bottom line was, I was just too cheap to buy a BMR Co-Pilot shelf (http://www.bmrproducts.com/products.php?cat=1)when I already had something that kinda sorta worked already. Anywho...look at the pic below. THAT is the perfect spot for your GPS. No, it's not distracting. And on a motorcycle, you don't have a lot of time to take your eyes off the road. Keep it just below your line of sight, and you'll be alright. Hope this helps.

Have to agree with Joe .. But I bought the BMR shelf and the Touratech gps mount for my Garmin 2610.. TOTALLY solid and easy to see right in the windscreen.. Of course in tipical fashon.. I modified the mounting of the Touratech mount rod with longer angle brackets to ensure my 05' windshield is always clear of the mount and will not hit the shield!! WORKS GREAT!

I also have 2 wings to mount other goodies as the need arises! (Sirius, RADAR)

I'll show you the mount ;)

Velcro on the radio stingray.
A piece of aluminum with velcro on the bottom and the Garmin mount stuck to the top with double sided foam tape.
It has stayed put very nicely.
Cheap, no drilling, doesn't block the mirrors like it did when I had it mounted on the handlebars with a RAM mount.

Although I don't have the BMR shelf, I have the other, not as stable one...

Mounted mine using a right angle bracket and the Garmin Motorcycle mount kit.

Pic...

Woolly, what's that device mounted above your clutch reservoir?

Woolly, what's that device mounted above your clutch reservoir?

It's a digital radio head unt - main unit and antenna mounted in the trunk - we can't get sirus (sirius?) sat radio over here, so that's the next best thing - couple of hundred radio stations, many advert/talk free and just bout any genre of music you could choose.

BMR shelf and bracket. Plan on switching to Tourtech bar mount and locking GPS mount . At times my gps needs to stay on the bike unattended to measure elapse time and average speed.

thanks to one and all for the pics and descriptions... amazing! it seems the garmin 2610/2730 type is very popular... has anybody used a C330 ? I use both a garmin 195 and a 196 for flying, one with a Ram yoke mount. I like the garmin products and support.

thanks again, all this is in preperation for a trip from LA to SF then Sacramento leaving this saturday, I may have to use maps for this trip... =(

Bruce if you fly you would love the Garmin 396C or the new 496. One unit will go from bike to car to the plane. It has the same flight book Capabilities, if you use that on your 196.

here is the parts list and then parts fiche at Max BMW. I didn't order the "Navigator Holder" it is just a cover or the cable because I used the Garmin motorcyle cable and mount, it attaches to the carrier unmodified. You can get the instruction sheet, it helps you find the electrical connections and shows you where to drill the holes.

71607684368 carrier BUY 1 $21.00
71607685289 counter-plate BUY 1 $10.00

I just bought the BMW mount. The Garmin 276c bolts right up to it.

My 276 using 1/2 of the marine mount.

Connected right to the edge of dash.
Built a custom wrap around shelf that holds the Escort & misc on other side.

Why the altimeter?

motorhead, do you have a pic of the backside?
I have the full marine mount on a shelf and do have problems lowering the windshield.
And why use an altimeter? Why not have the 276 show the elevation?

Garmin Zumo on BMR Co-Pilot Shelf. I mounted the steel trivet plate for the satellite antenna/receiver to the shelf using one of the screws that formerly held my satellite radio arm, and I drilled one other hole for the second screw. The antenna is now rock solid.

The audio line out (for voice prompts, XM radio and MP3s) runs to a cassette adaptor. One of these days I'll route the wire behind the bodywork.

The 276C does not offer altitude info ... Thus the Altimeter :D

** The marine mount when taken apart has a center screw right in the middle of bracket, this "Single" screw hole was used to place a screw right on the edge of upper grey dash.
Then using a small bead of "Sho Goo" or "Goop" either side of screw the mount is secured to edge of dash. Power comes from map light circuit.

I use the Touratech Locking Mount for both the GS and the LT, one on each so I can just move the GPS back and forth.

I have a 376c and it has elevation - so I would think the 276 has it as well. Look to see if you can re-program your map view and select elevation as one of the selectable fields?

Motorhead,
Sorry to be difficult, but how is the bracket mounted? I have a couple ideas how to do it but hate to reinvent the wheel if yours is a good setup.

If you hit menu then change data fields. You should be able to select elevation to be displayed on the 276.

Mounting was done by seperating the marine mount GPS holding section from the dash mount portion.

Utilizing the center pivot screw as primary anchor point, a hole was drilled right onto the lip of dash. Then a metric nut was added in behind to secure the screw.
Then a small bead of "Shoe Goo" or "Goop" adhesive was added either side to firmly anchor the bracket too dash.

Once the adhesive cures it's quite sercure.

** ONLY reason I went this route was to get unit low enough for full range use of windsheild, and a lower field of view over dash.

Exactly what I'm looking to accomplish. Thx
