I just got a new Satellite Receiver and have The Hoon Mount to mount it to the Clutch reservoir. Now, I can't quite figure out where to run the wire for power. I see I can run it through the handlebar covers, but then where. I'd like to get it to the map light possibly. How much stuff do I need to take off to get there? What have you guys done. Thanks,

Dale White

If you have an XM .... check this out .... power AND hardwire connection
CAUTION: Volt requirement for a Roady is 6 volts so go carefully when you hook it up.

Hope this helps.

Most of us have gone with the aforementioned hardwired connection,
it is a must because of the voltage requirements for the XM.

To get to the maplight you'll have to removed the top piece of the nose cone,
remove the windshield first then seven torx screws,
two are next to the winsdhield mechanism and one is behind the maplight
once you remove the plastic you can see the back of the map light.
remove the top of the left handlebar cover (two screws)
and you should be able to fish the wires through

Double check and ensure that you are providing all three power requirements correctly (volts, amps and watts), not just volts. For example, providing 6 volts for a Roady and not dropping the amps to 1000ma per the Roady specs can damage the unit. http://shopdelphi.com/consumers/satradio/roady/details/specifications/ (http://shopdelphi.com/consumers/satradio/roady/details/specifications/)

In addition, if this is the first of many modifications you plan to make around power, you might consider investing in a Bluesea or other type of power distribution box. There are many write-ups on the site if you search for Bluesea. Most of the write-ups will also provide suggestions on where to pull the main power source from, that also works with the key. Here is the URL to how I installed the Bluesea and where I pulled power including part numbers. http://kc6tew.com/mods/bluesea/bluesea.htm (http://kc6tew.com/mods/bluesea/bluesea.htm)

Side Note:
If you have never taken the Tupperware (plastic) off, this might be a good time (rainy season). My first time took me about an hour to remove the windshield and left side Tupperware to allow me to run all my wires and install my Bluesea, etc. Again, this site has the tips and hints on doing so. Just take your time when you do it.

My humble 2 cents

Thanks guys,

It's all buckled up now and working. The biggest problem was that I bought a Sirius Sportster Replay. The Hoon Hardware website says it works for Sportster models and it now does. But, I had to do a bit of Dremel work to cut a notch for the power plug that would have been under the mount.

I had an Xact model on the dash with the antenna mounted on the oddments? cover and the power just running down through under the seat. I never liked that arrangement. The Xact finally bit the dust after a couple of years of drops and rain.

The Sportster is 12V so I just ran the wire under the handlebar cover and up to the map light as Hans suggested. No rain here in the desert and the temps are in the 70's today. Not much down time for a biker here. Besides, I don't own a car, and I do need to go to work.

Thanks again
