Hi- I have an opportunity to buy a well cared for, one owner 2001 1150 GS w/ all OEM options, after mrkt hard bags, etc, w/ 32K miles, just had its full 35K major service, new tires. I am assuming but will confirm synth oil, newer (less then 10k miles) brake pads, and the original shocks.
I have had several Ks, no Rs, and I am getting this bike to see if I want to get more into GS ( I am keeping the LT until I make the decision if the GS suites my long distance solo needs, as the comfort level of the LT has made me a comfort snob possibly)
I like to do as much of my own wrenching as possible, but am no mechanic- learning to do valve adjustments has me a bit concerned, but hey, i had to pull my own tooth once, i got over it ...
qs; what would you consider a fair price? (I and bike are both in the midwest)
assuming I can confirm maintenance records, what is likely to need replacing or repair soon (next 10 k miles) I am assuming the shocks, but...
anything unusual about this model year etc, I should inquire about? Are valve adjustments that straight forward ont his bike?
i am also tryng to find a list of what all the 35k miles service is for this bike, any help there would be great as well. Thanks all in advance,
amarider

$8185 is the blue book value - market value has been a little less this season.
Your correct the shocks should be close.
The maintance is easier on the R bikes, valves are a breeze.
Good luck.

Thanks all in advance,NADA high retail value is $7,580.00, Blue book retail is $8,185.00, but neither of them reflect the added value of accessories, such as the bags, nor any reduction for mileage.
With the mileage on this one, it appears to have been ridden, which is actually better than a garage queen which can have all kinds of problems from gummy fuel.
Make SURE that the ABS brakes work. This could be an expensive item to repair!
Adjusting the valves is easy, if you have a mechanical "touch". Doing it perfect is as much art as science, but doing it "good enough" is easy. Just don't get carried away with the torque on anything, and you'll likely find it dead easy to learn. There's a couple of good step by step instuctions on-line. if you decide to get it, let us know, someone will pop up one or more links.
If it still has the original suspension components, you're probably right, it'll likely need shocks.
The dry clutch can be a bit fragile, but with those miles on it, I'm certain the original owner didn't abuse it, which means that it could last a long time yet. If it doesn't slip under load, it's probably good for a while yet. Coming from an LT, you're familiar with that story. :D
If the alternator belt hasn't been replaced, I'd do so ASAP, its due.
Depending on overall condition, I'd "guess" that it'd be a GREAT buy at $7,500.00, anything less than that would be a "STEAL!" Anything over $9,000.00, I'd be hesitant, although it "may" be worth it, depending on what it has for accessories, and whether those accessories are things that you want. If you're in the "snow belt", this may be a good time to find a bargin. :D
