Return to Ironhorse Lodge for LTs in the Smokies Oct.28/29 2005.
This is the place where the LT Spring Training Camp was held.

A ride to meet and eat for the weekend?no tech sessions or seminars, just riding and fellowship and of course eating?

October is peak season for the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and surrounding area with fall colors? I am posting this four months out to insure that we have time to make reservations?daylight savings time will change this weekend as well?the fall apples festivals are going full blast and it?s Halloween weekend.

Space at the lodge is limited, so reserve your space as soon as possible?

Cabin and Lodge rooms are limited, remember only 18 cabin and/or lodge rooms? there is plenty of camping space and several RV spaces with water and/or power.

Please contact Ironhorse to make all reservations.

Map to Ironhorse Lodge and Campground http://www.ironhorsenc.com/picts/detail_map.gif

What about Food Service?
Again check the IronHorse Lodge web site, they will prepare all the meals, breakfast to order. You will pay as you order, just like a restaurant. Please call for reservations even for camping, we need a good count for the planning of meals . http://www.ironhorsenc.com/dining.html

Does IronHorse sell or serve Beer?
NO, IronHorse will sell us bagged ice and rent us large coolers to save from having to bring those items. Beer and other like beverages are allowed at the facility, however they need to be purchased in the next county? Bryson City (20 minutes) Ingle Supermarket has the largest selection. There are a few C Stores nearby on Hwy 74 that sell beverages also.

Is there phone service or Internet service in the rooms?
No phone service in the cabins, cell phones may have a problem..mountain range, they do have wireless Internet service.

If I am camping, do I make a reservation?
Yes, this will enable us to plan better and will give the Iron Horse folks a heads up on the number to prepare food for meals. www.ironhorsenc.com

I have an LT, but can I bring my other bike?
SURE CAN,

Movies, Campfire, picking and grinning. The Lodge has a very large Movie screen, and they have movies or you can bring your favorite DVD movie and bring your musical instruments if you can for some picking and grinning.

Once you make your reservations please post to this page (reply).

This weekend had the most available rooms, therefore again we should have the place ?pretty much to ourselves? plus the RA Rally was scheduled for the second weekend in October. Saturday night we will have something special at the lodge, open for ideas?

OK, get the word out?

Remember at LT Spring Training Camp, I gave you Sunshine, Rain, Hail and a Snowfall? Well being late October in the mountains?I may can deliver it again.

I hate to pick on the TN faithful but;
When I typed in the above line in the reply editor and clicked Spell Check, The Spell Checker suggested an alternate spelling for "Vols" :)

Shelley and I would love to make this adventure but there is no way this time.
I want everyone to ride safe, give that cool "low biker sign to every bike, including scooters and Squids. (FYI) I use a 150cc scooter on a regular basis these days)

I also want to read several trip reports and expect many photos.

Spoke with Charlene this morning, she was at her home office and not in the lodge, so they should get back with you ASAP....

I don't have a list of the rented/non-rented rooms or bunk house...the 27 (thursday) shouldn't be problem at all, I do know that a few have requested the bunk house...I know of three in there thus far....for the 28/29 (fri/sat).

If you don't hear from them this weekend, get back with me.

With the trees going into full paint mode, I'm not sure I want to be on the Gap that weekend with the possibility of all the leaf peepers out. But then again, I'll see what Connie, aka On-board Photographer, wants to do. I'd love to ride the Gap with her on the back, but then again the Cherahola might be the best thing.

Yup I sure do. Rode it last Sunday. Can't believe I used to think it was a smooth bike. Compared to the LT it is a vibrating little toy that's not very stable. But I still think it is worth keeping stock. It gets an Antique plate next year.

Quite a screamer as I recall. Had a T250R, my first bike, I still hear that Ringgggggg in my ear. Then stepped up to the replacement for the GT the GS750E. Great bike. Took the whole market by surpise. Suzuki came out with a line of 4 strokers with roller bearings everywhere. The dealer encouraged me to ride it well into the redline all I wanted. Had a lot of good times on that bike. I saw one on Ebay recently and almost went for it.
