Greetings,
I have an 06 R1200RT. When I plug my Gerbings jacket liner into the accessory plug all works well. However, when I add the pant liners, things stop working. It's as if I blew a fuse but I understand these new bikes don't have fuses. Restarting the bike re-engages the power to the outlet but if I add the pant liners, it goes out again. Could the combination of jacket liner and pants be too much? They work together on my 95 airhead. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks, Lou Laguna

The CanBus system limits the power output on the accessory plugs to 5 amps. This may run your jacket liner if not on full, but won't run your pants and jacket together. For more detailed info, check out this thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10755), specifically the last post (#33).

I appreciate the reference to the CanBus explanation. I wired my Gerbing's plug directly to ther battery. I must say I find it frustrating that an "accessory outlet" handles only about 5 AMPS. Although I now understand the technical reason, it certainly does not make practical sense to have outlets that can't handle the draw of typical accessories. Thanks again. Lou

I have an 05 RT. Here is the way I solved your problem. I personally do not like a lot of wires hanging out around my seat. Here is an easy fix for the problem.

It is a very easy way to run your accesory plug direcly to the battery bypassing the CanBus. You can then use your battery charger through the accessory plug with no problem.

You will find that your Gerbing's run much hotter when coming straight off the battery anyway. NO accessory port or fuse block needed. And this is coming from a guy that has TWO fuse blocks on his new GT. But the heated gear connects straight to the battery, with the cables tucked neatly under the seats...for me, and my wife.
