Bike's running better than ever. My gear indicator was acted a little goofy (wouldn't show Neutral) so that issue was cleared up with the GT-1. Gotta love it.
I did a few little things around the shop (as well as buy the boys some lunch) so next week I'm getting a rear tire mounted and balanced for free, as well as the 7.1 update installed for free. I'll report back once that's installed.

How was the time, difficulty and cost compared to a 12K on an LT? Other than the GT-1 brain dump is it straightforward enough to do in your own garage, or is it designed to required dealer interaction to do it right? I thought I read somewhere that an oil change required a pump of some sort, but I could be mistaken.

The GT is WAY easier and faster to work on than the LT. And other than tires, cost of ownership from the maintenance side is about 50%. No, one doesn't need a pump for oil changes...that's for coolant changes. There's no tranny fluid to change (shares with motor oil). And my '06 GT's rear drive is sealed. We opted not to change the rear drive fluid as others have. If it fails, I'll deal with it then. If BMW wants to pay to change it, I'll let them. But I'm not paying a dime. I may change my mind over the winter...we'll see.

. . . as well as buy the boys some lunch . . .
Joe, You've got it sussed !! :)
(btw, few years ago, stayin at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC with my Ex - we got upgraded to the Vanderbilt suite, which was good, specially, cos I was payin, - most of the other people were on expense accounts, or on conferences etc. . . - got in a lift - I'll never forget, there was a little Vietnamese girl, with white cotton gloves on, whose sole role in life was to press the button of the floor you wanted - we got joined in the lift by a load of uncooth young kids (on a conference, or something similar) - they had a right good go at the Vietnamese lift attendant, so I just mentioned to my ex,(in a loud, good, Brit accent) 'you've got to be nice to people on the way up - you might meet them on the waydown !! ) - If you're good to people, they'll look after you.

Did my 6K a few weeks ago and changed my rear end along with putting in a mag plug. I also went all syn and swear the shift between 2 and 3 is getting much better. 1st to 2nd still feels like two pieces of metal slapping up against one another. Hopefully that will also get better with more miles on the GT. Other than that this bike is all I hoped for and want from a sport tour.

Have you tried less clutch on the shift. Somebody mentioned only pulling the clutch lever about hal an inch while shifting. It makes mine silent and smoooooth!
