I am currently strongly considering the purchase of a new or late model GS or GSA...I have done some off road riding on sport bikes (12 years ago), but have been riding street cruisers and touring bikes since...I want to find out if there are any schools, riding courses, groups of adventure riders, etc. that, if i should decide to go this direction, i could join for some instructions on the handling of this size bike under a variety of off road conditions...of course, this would be on my own bike...once i have the bike (the new 1200 GSA comes to mind), have had some experience alongside some experienced riders, i want to take a trip to Anchorage, Alaska on it...i live in Dallas, Tx...any input will be appreciated...

There is a school in California called RawHyde Adventures. The link is www.rayhyde-offroad.com. I hear they are excellent.

The R12GS is really not an off-road bike. It is too heavy. Although there are a few people who can handle it.
This bike is great for my trips to Alaska, Baja, and Mexico. However, we only do gravel roads with occasionally sand. Bike handles this ok but there is a big difference in dirt roads, forest service roads, etc and off-road. When I do off-road, I use the Yamaha WR250F which weighs less than half what the GS does.
