I have just ordered a new 2007 RT, with the automatic stability control....which won't be available until January. My dealer told me the BMW radio is overpriced and isn't very good. So, I'm seeking advice on how to hook up my XM radio and iPod (don't care about a CD player or AM/FM radio)....any ideas on how to build a portable or mounted amplifier system that would work? We thought about finding something we could mount inside the tank bag and have one wire out of the bag to a new fuse panel for power, and then another neat wire to hook up the headphones in the helmet.
Any advice would be appreciated.

John,
I had the BMW shop to install the BMW CB/Intercom Communicator (Com II Plus) for R 1200 RT. The part number is 71 60 0 412 987. My RT is an '06.
It works perfectly. The CB, GPS, and XM radio all go through the helmet speakers flawlessly. I have had no problems at all with the system.

Yup, the BMW Com II Plus is a quick and easy way to get an intercom and CB installed on the bike. From there you just need any old XM radio, and wire her in.
If you don't need the CB piece, or possibly want to add it (or FRS) later, you could also do an Autocom install. Should be priced a little less if all you're wanting to do day one is XM into your helmets, plus then you could do the tank bag on/off install.

Great......thanks for this information.
My goals are to have XM and iPod for music, and to be able to hear my Valentine radar detector, and maybe the GPS (although that is the lowest priority to me). Will the Autocom do all that?
Thanks.

The Autocom will do all that. I used an Autocom on my last bike, and will move it over to the RT once I get my switched fuse block installed. I run my GPS, V1, and XM radio into it, as well as occasionally my cell phone and/or a bike-to-bike radio (I have both CB and FRS setup for the Autocom). Works good for that.
If you don't need the intercom (2-way) setup, you might also be able to get away with just using a Mixit for the V1, GPS, and iPod. Save even a little more money on the setup.

So if you don't get the radio package, where did you get the speaker brackets? I can not even get my dealer to look up the info for me. All I want are the speaker brackets. I can get a 40watt amplifier, hook to the speakers, then hook ipod or whatever to amp.
But can't seem to find speaker brackets. Any ideas/leads?
Thanks...

I have a 2005 RT and I have the Autocom along with the XM SKYFI II, the BMW GPS of my old K1200LT. I use a Kenwood FRS for bike to bike and the Autocom has intercom capabilities. I have an IPOD that I also use with the Autocom. The GPS, XM and IPOD are all mounted using the BMR Co Pilot for the RT. I am very happy with this setup.
