For those of y'all not fortunate(???) enough to live in Austin so's you can see that beeg honking billboard, there's now a statwide toll tag that will work in Houston, Dallas, Austin and Dos.

According to the North Texas Tollway Authority (http://www.ntta.org/AboutUs/News/Interoperability.htm), the NTTA toll tags work statewide as well. I knew they had the interop with Houston, just wasn't sure about the new roads in the Austin area.

Yeah, the conspiracy grows, especially now that we can't stop them.

Get them now while they are free.

Except there is a "deposit" for the MC tags... which they say probably won't work because I won't stick them on the tip of my windscreen... but since I'm now registered and have a "tag" (3x4x1/2' box), they want me to carry it in my pocket and "if" their gizmo doesn't record then they will charge my account based upon the photo of the license tag.

Meanwhile, the roads we paid for are all hosed up.

Yep, received three by mail a couple weeks ago. Required a $20.00 deposit for each when you register the vehicle. As I understand it when you get down to a $15.00 balance in the account they ding your credit card for more money. I used the toll road a couple times this past week driving from Georgetown into Austin and found out that you can come down I-35 to downtown as fast or faster than you can coming down MoPac. Still have three lanes squeezing in two at the 183 interchange. That took some real planning.
Off the subject but still relating to our highway construction has anyone driven 290 and taken the new turn lane that has been installed at the intersection of 165 to Blanco? This half mile or so was just widened and re-paved to add a left turn lane. Probably the roughest stretch of new road I have ever driven on. Our highway department is doing a great job. Just like the great job they are doing in Kerrville....been 8 months on the main road into town with another 8 or more to go....already a half dozen businesses have closed since it is almost impossible to get in and out of their locations on 16. Damn, I wish the Kinkster had been elected.

We have a similar PikePass up here - it works less than 50% of the time for me and I carry it in my coat pocket. I always make sure i send them an email immediately after I get home letting them know it failed again just so that some day I don't get pulled over. They always respond and have never gone back and billed me.... :)

I have tried all kinds of things -- their latest suggestion was to have it horizontal in my pocket  ....

My North Texas tolltag is taped to the underside of my instrument cowling. It has never failed to register.

I just got mine for Austin and was wondering whether that would work. Thanks for posting that, John. Any other option certainly isn't a good one.

I put my E-Z-Pass in a pouch that I put on the inside of the windshield with 2 suction cups and it registers every time, when it almost never did in my breast pocket. I paid around 5 bucks on a website that I cannot recollect at the moment.

You got that right! I came in last week using the 45 to 1 off the I-35 only to have a huge backup on the toll road before it even got to Palmer.

What I wonder is if the majority of folks will buy into the toll roads leaving the side streets finally open. If so then I have no need for the toll road. Just exit at Hesters Crossing then use the back way to Burnet then using then onto where the toll meets the free part of Mopac.

I really don't want to buy that da$# tag!

Another fine idea from the makers of your new TAX LAWS! Does anyone know where they got the money to START the highway projects before they turned them into toll roads? FYI ..........your taxes! BOHICA!

Bottom line: I'd pay $50 bucks, even more, if it got me thru Austin during rush hour. Or, say you're travelling north and some moron, er, unfortunate soul, has a fender bender. It stops traffic both ways for miles. Hell, even a flat tire will do it. Steenkeen rubber neckers.

At least someone had the smart's to ban 18 wheels out of the left lane. Though, I've noticed them twisting off and doing it anyway, lately.

I bet they do a Smokey check before hand. One blew a yield sign yesterday and smoothe ran the F-250 off the road. I felt like doing my own Smokey check after he flipped me off for impolitely yelling yield.

That's when it would be nice to be an auxillary Sheriff's deputy with arresting powers. Wonder how he'd like sitting in jail for about 24 hours???

I just velcro it to the top of my instrument cowl right below windshield. Works great and I can take it off when not needed.

Grif.. if you get the lic. # you can go to the local Kophauze and swear an affidavit. When that guy gets stopped or renews tags or license they will pull up his record and voila! he's got some 'splain' to do. Yeah you have to "swear" that it is correct for it to get traction... so document what you saw in writing as best and give it to the Great Sandar to file for you...
