About 4 years back, I watched as my Motorola StarTAC fell to the tarmac while riding the LT at 55mph on the highway. While keeping one eye on the road and the other peering into the right mirror, I watched as the phone bounced right under the tire of a semi and exploded into a million pieces. I laughed it off, as it was about time for a new phone anyway. C'est la vie.

Now two phones later, enter the LG VX6100.

Two Fridays ago, Nancy (on her ZZR600) and I (on the GT) was rolling down Route 80 @ 75 mph. I felt something hit my left leg and looked down, only to see my phone falling to the tarmac...again! :( As I looked on with disbelief into the left mirror, I watched as the phone bounced and spun end-over-end down the left berm. Nancy saw the whole thing, as well . . . but she thought it was my iPod. Fortunately, there wasn't anyone behind us and the left berm was wide and clear so we immediately pulled over. During the 1/4-mile walk back to 'the scene of the wreckage', we discussed the chances of this thing actually still working. As we approached the phone, we found that it had popped open and laying with the main display and keypad down against the pavement! Not good! :( But wait! The outside display is still displaying the time, and it's not cracked! I pick the phone up and it's working! And the inside display is NOT cracked either!!! I call Nancy's phone and 'all system's GO'. Who'd a thunk?! :D It's got some new battle scars, but it's still on the job.

The LG VX6100. Takes a lickin' and keeps on . . . err . . . you get the point. :)

I'm getting old & pedantic - always keep my phone in my LHS shirt breast pocket (if I get a shirt without a pocket, I worry). keep my wallet in my LHS jeans pocket (plastic only) keep my stash in my RHS jeans pocket (never been stolen yet) - when I go ridin, take £10 (bout 20$) from my RH jeans pocket, and put it in my Bike Jacket inside LHS pocket. As I say, sounds pedantic, but the routine works for me - never lost cards/cash/phone yet. Only probs I have now is remembering where I put the ignition key - what I've started doing now is putting the key in the top box with my helmet, when I leave the bike, then use central locking to lock it in there - saves me goin through every pocket, tryin 2 remember where I left the key.

Last month I left my cell in my jeans and the bugger went all the way through the wash and the dry cycles. works fine. the LCD display had some moisture for a few days but it dried and the phone is clean and working fine.

I should've mentioned this...
With the 1st phone, it was snapped into it's clip which was attached to my riding jacket. It was obviously not snapped in all the way. :o With my current phone, it has traveled at least 20K on my LT, and now 12K on my GT snapped into it's holder that is mounted to a Spider Mount. It was obviously not snapped in all the way once again. :o What a moron!

Speaking of being pedantic...I need to become more so. On my last longish ride a few weeks back, I lost my entire credit card holder which contained all of credit cards, and my driver's license. As of today, all has been restored...but WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT!!! There's a lot to be said for having a steady routine and a good pre-flight check list. I strayed from my normal routine and paid the price. It won't happen again. Lesson learned.

Dropped a Treo that was 2 weeks old on I 26 at 75 mph. Watched it as the car behind me got it with his right front tire. All I ever found was the battery cover and some real small pieces. Verizon didn't want to honor the insurance either until I got sort of loud in front of a whole store full of customers.
