I 'm presently have approx. 700 mls to date on my 06K/GT and bike runs fine. I'm not sure if all of BMW's 600ml. sevice is nessecery at that mileage. I'de have to lose a day of work, and the oil changes and inspections I should be able to do myself. Engine and gear Oil, filter and a few gaskets and O rings are needed. Do I really need Brake bleed test, and Motronic fault memory w/ GTS at this time? Also do I need a 7.0 or higher upgrade? I may have to go to dealer anyways to pickup a Shop Maintenance manual on CD, but wont be in for week to 10 days. Any help? I plan on doing as much self maintenance within reason warrenty or not. Maybey in time w/ manual and some special tools, I'll be able to adjust valves when nessecery.

My dealer recommended coming in at 1,000 miles to see if anything needed attention. The oil change is slow due to the design. Runs up the bill on ya. It is a $100 oil change.

You only need to do these things if you want to keep the warranty valid, and make sure the bike is OK after its initial run-in. If those two things aren't important to you then skip it.

Well; When I called the service department at the local BMW dealer, They weren't sure if the gear oil change needed to be changed, and could wait till later, and i could have done what I wanted for service. No mention of voiding warrentee. I cant believe a BMW dealer HAS to do all service, or warrentee is void. I'll change fluids and do overall inspections, and keep all receits. I should then bring bike in and have bleed test w/ motorad gt-1, and read out motronic fault memory w/gt-1 and any upgrades of which I cant do, and by doing basic fluid changes myself should be of significant savings for the balance of work to be done. If something breaks down, and dealer attemps to put blame on my work; they would have to prove to me This was directly related to present fault.

You're right. Do what you can and bring it in for the GT-1 readout. That's all you're required to do.

Never said the dealer had to do it. Your email talked about skipping it all together. If you skip it you'll void the warranty. If you do it, or the dealer, and keep records of it, you'll be fine.

They did change the final drive fluid on mine at 600. The 12k service looks like the pricey one with changing the brake fluid and all. The valve clearance adjustment on this bike is determined by the computer which tracks how long the fuel injectors have been running to determine if the engine has had enough wear. My dealer said they have seen it called for at 10K on bikes that were beaten and as long as 32k on bikes that were pampered. Have you looked at what's required to check the valve clearance? Radiator has to come off - special tool to remove coils on top of plugs, etc. Looks like a PITA! Makes ya just want to do it doesn't it? I have the service CD and plan to do a lot of this stuff myself after the 12k service (I got the first three thrown in with the purchase.) The BMW mechanic at my dealer is very cool and let's me watch (why can't I find two women who'll let me watch?!)

Bob, tell me more about the service CDROM for the new GT. Available from the dealer? Part number? Cost? Thanks.

The part number on the back says 01 79 7 702 670 claims it's the second edition. My dealer got it for me - around 125.00 or so. Someone has one on ebay, but I never trust those. If you've got any friends nearby you could all go in on it. It is possible to copy the contents to a directory on your hard drive and use it without the cdrom, which is what I'm sure those selling originals on ebay are doing.
