Reverser speed sensor questions

I am trying troubleshoot and or get my reverser working without having to take it in to a shop for warranty work.

Does anyone, probably with a schematic, know what to ring out on the sensor and chassis harness. What voltages where and when? And I assume the brown on the chassis connector is ground.

Also, thinking about jumpering past the sensor at the chassis connector, but don't want to do this for risk of damaging the reverser control unit without knowing what pins to jump for sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

From the looks of the schematic the speed sensor is a hall effect unit. Three wires to it not sure of the best way to test it as you would have to stimulate it to get a read out with a scope or meter. Most failures have been the micro switches at the control knob or the controller unit itself.

Not too many of the sensors, but there have been some. Most likely symptom is the reverse runs for a short period and stops (one or two seconds). If yours is not starting to move at all I would suspect the micro switches have gotten out of adjustment. Maybe Mark will have better info for you.

Yes mine starts and stops, fairly sure it's the sensor or sensor circuit. Behaves the same if disconnected. So, since it's a hall effect sensor, in this application it must be normally closed and opens at a certain speed.

I just don't know if it's sinking or sourcing so I can jump it safely.

Maybe someone can help from there.

It probably provides a pulse train to the circuits so would be difficult to fake out. Good Luck with it.

Looks like your right John. The sensor is apparently not just for overspeed, but to ensure a range of speed. Thanks for your help though.

Unable to make it work at all, but on the bright side, I didn't make it any worse either:)

On my '05 had same symptom.. when in reverse, press the starter button, engine speed increased.. the bike almost moves then cycles to idle.

Lonestar swapped it with a good one and presto... back on the road.
