A few weeks ago my friend, Jim, took his '99 LT to Ted Porter's Beemer Shop in Scotts Valley, CA. I was so impressed with the service Jim received and the reasonable price he paid for tires, oil change w/filter & annual that I decided to try them myself, today!

I have a '05 LT with 15,4** miles, and hadn't had an annual done yet. I brought my own tires to them, which they mounted with new valve stems, balanced and installed on the bike for $72 (way less money then any of the other shops in the Walnut Creek, CA area. For instance, Walnut Creek BMW wanted $90 to mount & balance the tires, IF I carried the wheels in off the motorcycle.

Additionally, I had the Clutch fluid flushed & replaced and the ABS Wheel Circuit fluid changed and bled for a very reasonable $96. If you've had that service done at BMW, you know how much they charge for the same work.

Apart from the great pricing, Adam was very conscientious about his work, which I was allowed to observe, and methodical in his pre and post work inspections and ride. He noticed that the hydraulic fluid is leaking from my center stand, and told me that it will be covered under factory warranty, but I'll have to go to a BMW dealer for that service, although they do "Extended Warranty" work for the various warranty companies.

Ted Porter, the owner of the shop, was very approachable and friendly. I gained some great insights into my bike from both Ted and Adam thoughout the morning.

I highly recommend Ted Porter's Beemer Shop for any work on your LT, Oil Head or Air Head BMW. I noticed that there were seveal CHP motors their for work, too!

Great shop, great people and great work!

Oh, so that's what Ted is up to these days. Ted's the real deal. He was service manager at Bob's BMW in Maryland, San Jose BMW, and Santa Cruz BMW. Nice guy. He used to give me tips about fixing my own bike when he was at San Jose.

I think the bay area is ripe for a good independant beemer shop, especially with the bad reports coming out of San Jose. Good luck to Ted. I really hope he makes this work. Sounds like he's off to a good start.

Agreed! Ted Porter was very knowledgable, and very helpful to me, when he worked as head of service at Bob's BMW in MD. Nice guy.
