View Full Version : Kenwood Freetalk Dead?

While in the process of making all the pieces and lights work....much to my dismay I am discovering that the Kenwood Freetalks are largely a thing of the past. The "BMW" preferred Freetalk (the one with a BMW part number) is no longer available and finding a low price model anywhere is completely out of the question...and of course I already bought the BMW cord for the VOICE II.

I know that there has been a lot of discussion about how the Freetalks are not necessarily the best unit out there, but the price "was" right. Also since there is the option of a stand-alone mount for a Freetalk that interfaces to a BMW headset, it offers the option of using the same headsets if me and my SO are both on the LT or both on our own bikes.

Question....is there anything else out there (under $100 a pop, lets say) that is compatible with the BMW cord designed for the Freetalk? Part two..maybe the same question...is what happened to what was a huge product line? Did brand K sell it off to someone else, or did they just decide that the lower end two-ways was not profitable enough?

A friend of mine just bought a Freetalk a few weeks ago. He spent a few hours on the web but found one. I have several types of these and the freetalk is by far the best quality.

Thanks. I did find a source after posting and decided to get one cheap one that was FRS only and one expensive one that was FRS and GMRS both. This way I can use the good one on the LT for general and 2 up riding and use the cheap one on my wife's bike when are both riding. Kenwood is continuing to make the higher line Freetalk series, and they use the BMW connector.
