I would love to have a new GS, are they easy to do your own maintenance?
My nearest dealer is 100 miles away.
Thanks

If you're trying to educate yourself on the GS try the adventure rider forum. Lots of good stuff.

To answer your question, yes, maintenance is pretty easy. Oil, valves, etc are quite simple. I let the dealer do the brake bleads on the servo brakes. Much of the GS is pretty exposed without much dissassy.
Enjoy!

I have owned 17 new bikes in past 7 years. If I could only have one bike this is it. It is the easiest bike I've ever owned to work on. And if you've ever done your maintenance on an LT, you will think what a piece of cake. After having K bikes, at first I was disappointed in the 6000 valve adjustments because I was having to hunt up a dealer on my first trip about every 7-9 days. Now I do all my own maintenance and I can adjust valves in a motel parking lot or campground in about 35 minutes. After about 12-18k miles the valves settle in and you can extend the interval if you need to. The bike will let you know if they get out of adjustment without hurting it. The bike just likes to travel - first bike I have ever run synethic oil in because I go on so many long trips and I feel better about extending the oil change intervals with it in the crankcase.
If you buy crash bars, make sure you get the brand that will let you change oil and filter without taking the crash bars off. I use the Hepco Becker crash bars so I don't have to remove them for maintenance of oil changes or valve adjustments. Only drawback to them is that if you are an aggressive rider you can drag them on the ashpalt pavement if you lean it far enough.
