I don't want to assume that I know what you're referring to. Could you be a little more specific? Please... :)

I think he was alluding to the article referring to the GT as a Sports Tourer. :)

Over the past 5 years I have put 30,000 miles on my 1150RT and 45,000 miles on my '03 LT; I can't understand how anyone can consider the RT a better touring platform. What am I missing here?

Joe,

Having worked and traveled extensively in England, I assure you Joe he is pulling your Yank leg! The link is about the award the GT got from UK's best bike rag.

Rode to Vermillion today, starting at 42 degreees, hit a high of 47. Did not see one bike along lake road the entire way there and back! GT's rule!

What am I missing here?I wonder the same thing. Before I purchased my used LT, I test rode a brand spankin new R1200RT. It was comparitively uncomfortable and the vibration was annoying to me. However, it was far more agile and easy to handle. Mabye these critics value performance more the comfort. It's just like taking a movie critic's advice--it's based on subjective criteria that may be different than yours.

The article states that the LT won Best Tourer for 6 years, until the RT was submitted for consideration two years ago and has won twice now. Obviously, it's a marketing ploy where BMW is pushing their latest model to get good press. I'm sure that when the new LT comes out, it will get submitted and most likely win the category again.

The UK mags are a bit more independent than their US counterparts, and they do appreciate handling on secondary roads a bit more than pure freeway/motorway comfort. But I agree with y'all. While the RT is a fine bike, I just never felt as comfortable as on my LT. Guess I'm just not the boxer type. Fortunately, BMW still makes both models so we can all ride what we want.
