I recently bought a pre-owned '05 K1200LT w/ the VOICE II intercom and the BMW Nav II already installed. My question, how can I hear the GPS prompts through my headset? I can hear them fine driving in the car using the power/audio adapter, but nothing on the bike. Thanks.

Do you see a mini audio jack (2.5mm I think) plugged into bottom left side of the GPS cradle? If so, you should be able to hear it when you switch the radio to AUX (using the CD button).

Thanks Steve. I did see the port, but nothing plugged in. Nor was there an apparent wire that was disconnected from it.

You shouldn't need to switch anything on the radio, you will hear the commands OVER any music playing on the radio, cd or aux setting. There must be an issue with something.

Doug,
I stand corrected by the 'Gigolo' . However, if the audio cable is not present, it won't work one way or another. See the attached photo of my cradle and the red circle. I have an Autocom 7 where that wire connects to.
I'm not familiar with the VOICE II system, but the pricipals should be the same and you should be able to purchase the proper cable and run it from the cradle to your audio system for sound.

Thanks Steve. I had it in to the dealer's for a tire change, and asked them about the GPS. They weren't very informative other than to say that if there was a defect they would repair/replace it under the warranty. Where do you route the wire from the cradle? Does it go inside the tank case into the AUX port?

Steve, first of all you can call me by my name (unless I offended you by pointing out mis-information in which case I can take a little abuse :D). Now onto more of the mis-information business... the Voice II is NOT the same as running the Nav II or Nav III through the Autocom. The Voice II integrates the system and no wire is needed from the bottom of the cradle. I do understand that since you have an Autocom your not used to using the integrated system so no big deal, I have gone through both a Comm 3 and the Voice II so I have some experience at this point but you don't want to send this guy on a wild goose chase.

Doug, I think it is really sad when a dealer won't step up and help out further then making a general comment. They should have checked out the system for you :( . If I lived near you I would certainly come by and help check it out. IF you come to NorCal I know about 10 of us LT folks that would help ya ;). I should have told you this before but... have you checked the volume on your GPS to make sure it is adjusted to a level that can be heard (I know this is dumb to ask but it happens)? When the GPS gives a command your music will mute and the command will be heard through your headset as long as you have some reasonable level of volume. If that is not the problem I am going to bet there is an issue with the Voice II and not your GPS. This brings me to my next question, is your bike still under warranty? I think it may be due for a trip to a different dealer that is willing to give you service if it is.

I am attaching photos so you know how your wires should look with a Voice II.

Hi Scott! Thanks very much for the excellent information. The pictures were very helpful and confirmed that my setup and yours are identical. I didn't think the suggestions about the GPS volume was nonsense. Leave no stone unturned, right? :) But, yes the volume is turned up on the GPS and is on. Since I can hear it in the car, but not on the bike I agree that it is an intercom issue.

I also agree on checking out a wider variety of dealerships. In this part of the country they are a bit few and far between, but it's just another excuse for a ride. :) I haven't been to the one in North Houston, but have heard good things about it. They were very prompt in their replies when I was looking for information about a possible bike purchase, so perhaps I'll check them out.

If I'm ever in N. Cal, which I hope to be someday, I'll definitely try to look you guys up, and of course the same goes if you're ever in S. LA (not Los Angeles). :bmw:

Scott,
i didnt' mean to offend you, especially since you chose your handle.
As far as your explaning the GPS and VOICE II interface, it looks like both Doug and I learned something.

Hey Steve, I wasn't offended at all, I was being a smart ass more than anything just to have fun back with you. Actually El Jeffe picked the handle for me after visiting me in Sacramento for a weekend... I've cleaned up my act these days LOL. Your also welcome to come visit us in NorCal anytime for the fun and games :D
