Only have 20K on the bike so can't give a good answer.

My stock shock failed at 40,000 miles! The top yoke broke from the rod on a rough-as-a-cob South Dakota interstate.
I had refilled the pre-load twice before that failure and I didn't have any complaints... But, boy-O-boy, that new Ohlins is sweet! :D

Hi Ken
Never gave them a chance to wear out. Went to Ohlins at 6k I think.

I knew they were shot by 36K miles and put off my decision. Now at 38K miles, every bump is felt, the front end seems to wander when leaning in and out of turns. I watched the left mirror slowly vibrate off a few days ago while riding down a newly paved road (bad job). It's so bad that my riding enjoyment has plummeted.
I ordered Wilber's yesterday. If I could do it over, I would have replaced at the 24K mile service. After all, Wilber's and Ohlin's are rebuildable.

My stock shocks stayed on until over 80K miles, but they were trashed long before then and should have been replaced. When we replaced my clutch slave cylinder around 60K, the swingarm was covered in a dirty film that I later realized was shock oil.
I managed to pick up a used set of Ohlins, which were infinitely better. I should have done it sooner.
I see that you've picked up Brian's Ohlins. Good move, and let me know if you need a hand installing them. One note of caution though. When you swap the shocks out, be sure to tie the center stand forward so that the bike remains stable while working on it. Right, Brian? ;)

My new to me K1100LT has what appears to be a OEM rear shock, the bike
has 64K. Anyone have something used for me to buy?

40K and mine are shot. So before the snow melts away, I will be replacing them. Ohlins look like they will do the job.

I am with the others, my bike has 40 on her now and my stock shocks are shot (try to say that 3 times without stuttering)!
When I can dole out the money and find a good buy for a set of Wilburs or Ohlins, I will need to get them.
Now see, I can put that money towards an '07 Concours!

I replaced them at about 31K with Ohlins. The shocks weren't actually worn out but the springs were sagging which reduced cornering clearance, center clearance (I could scrape riding across a crested driveway) and I could no longer get the bike on the centerstand without a running start.
I like it with the Ohlins (25K later). It's a little stiff when ridden solo (I overspeced the springs) but the centerstand is a one handed operation. Bumpy roads get a little jiggly.
