I own a 2003 LT with the Com system. about a year after i bought the bike, i had the bmw handlebar mounted cb (which is actually a j&m unit) put on so i could communicate with my riding buddy who rides a goldwing. The thing has never worked right. There is a ton of feedback and distortion while transmitting and recieving. It did work great once in the rain but never again. Anybody else have similiar problems/solutions?

Sorry, I don't have any help for you but would appreciate it if you could answer a question for me. I purchased a BMW handlebar mounted CB and am trying to figure out how I'm supposed to route the cables under the handlebar covers. How was it done on your LT? Did they cut a hole somewhere for the cables or what, Id be very interested in how it was done. A picture would be great if possible.
Many thanks!

Just two screws on Plastic that cover the handle bars. Lots of room for cables. . No cutting.

You sure? How does he get the wires up out of the cover without going all the way to the end and folding back toward the CB mount. My CB is in the oddments box so I don't know how the J&M unit runs the wires.

Eric,
Sounds like your antenna isn't rounded.

I agree there's plenty of room under the covers, but how you get the cables from the CB mounted on the clutch reservoir into the cover is the problem. There is no obvious opening and it appears it will be necessary to cut a hole somewhere in the lower cover to get the cables installed, unless someone has come up with a better way. I was hoping someone who has done, or had it done, could offer some guidence.

Myself and several others have/had the unit and have experienced the same issues. I have a 2005 with the VOICE II and the J&M/BMW CB - it was the biggest waste of money I spent on the LT. I tried everything possible to get it to work - grounding, multiple filters, multiple antenna/cable combinations (including no-ground plane), SWR tuned to around 1.5 and less, still transmitted a whine. I finally gave up and ripped it out.
Makes me wish I had got the Baehr...
Sorry I'm no help, but you're not alone. Oh yeah, hours on the phone and at the dealership - BMW says it is a issue with the CB and J&M says it is the VOICE II unit....
Good luck. Tim
