I own a 2003 LT with the Com system. about a year after i bought the bike, i had the bmw handlebar mounted cb (which is actually a j&m unit) put on so i could communicate with my riding buddy who rides a goldwing. The thing has never worked right. There is a ton of feedback and distortion while transmitting and recieving. It did work great once in the rain but never again. Anybody else have similiar problems/solutions?

Hi Eric
Have the same setup on my 03 Lt. It was the first BMW branded J&M unit that my dealer installed. Took it back to them 6 times to have it fixed. They never succeded. Took it to another dealer and they said they couldn't fix under warranty since the other dealer installed and was attempting to fix. Told them I didn't care - just wanted it to work. They took a look at it and found that the other dealer didn't ground the antenna properly. They were supposed to grind a bare spot where the bracket attaches to the frame and didn't do so. Cost me $150.00 to finally get it fixed. Has been working fine now. The problem I was having was that I could hear everyone just fine, but no one could understand me when transmitting. Seems like most problems are antenna related.

Here is some antenna information from Firestick antennas that might help?

You might want to make sure you have the latest cable between your head set and the transmitter. Had some problems with my 06 but resolved it with the latest cable. Cheers
