Howdy. Just joined the ranks of beemer owners.

I received a Clymer Service/Repair/Maint manual with my "new" '96 R1100RT, but don't see anything about replacing the high/low headlight switch. Anyone have a link/article on this?

Thanks!

ChazSorry, no link -- but $0.02 (keeping in mind it's been *years* since I did this on my '99 R11RT):

IIRC, the 8(?) pin plug at the end of the switch harness meets its socket underneath the fuel tank. That means removing both body side panels and the tank. Once the side panels are off, unless the prior owner installed quick-disconnects in the fuel lines, you'll need 4 fuel line clamps to close off the hoses (without damaging the hoses) to separate the lines. There's also the tank vent and chacoal canister hoses (keep track of which is which, unless the canister's been eliminated), and the fuel pump electrical connector. Before pulling the tank, though, and after removing the side panels, eyeball/follow the existing switch harness down from the handlebar to its termination -- in other words, make sure it ends up under the tank, instead of at some easy-to-reach location! My memory's not what it used to be ;)

p.s. -- This is the sort of thing that makes the factory manual (on CD) worth the price of entry.

Thanks for the great reply! I'll check into finding the cd rom.
