Anybody got any idea how to remove the lockset from the topcase on the new GT. I've researched and found many posts on the older locksets and they all seem to have a small hole to release the last catch that holds the lock in. I can't find any access on this one. Any help appreciated.

Unfortunately the only access to this hole is through the small cap on the top surface of the lower case half. It is a plastic cap that removes with a quarter turn. It would take a long tool with a right angle pin as well as the knowledge of just where the release access is in the internal lock mechanism.
I never had any success and ended up separating the lower half of the case to get to the lock. The disassembly is much easier than the reassembly.

Yea - I broke down and disassembled the lower case. It would have been nice to know I only had to drill out 2 of the rivets. Even once I had the entire latch mechanism out I could not find the access whole until I disassembled the housing holding the tumbler at which time it was easily visable. However as the shoude came aprt the spring and little parts exploded like a grenade. Forutnealtly my 9 year old was able to help get the peices all back together. I now have the bottom part reassembled and everything seems to work. Now to go rekey the damn lock. I should have known not to trust the salesman when he said "just pop it in and we'll take it out to rekey it next time you come in."

They're real easy to rekey. Just put the key in the lock and file down the the tabs that stick up. You're done. Then, just pop it in.

Finally got it all done - only 7 hours! The rekeying part was easy - only had two that needed to be changed. Switched them and one worked so I just left the other out. It is has 5 of the tabs working. Getting the damn lock holder assemble back together and getting the handles for the two releases set just right was a whole different story. I've had the thing apart so many times today the I can now tear the topcase down in lest than 5 minutes!

How do you remove the lock if you have the key? The parts guy at my dealership said it was easy if you had the key, However he did not know how to do it. I maybe buying a topcase from a friend but he will need the key back and I need to rekey to match my keys.

It is really a PITA if you haven't done it. Rivets have to be drilled out and replaced and you have to disassemble several complicated mechanisms to completely disassemble the case. If you are not really technically oriented this is not the job you want to do. You might ask your dealer for a firm price to do it. I'd do it for you for $50.00 and you pay shipping both ways. You'll need the key that currently fits the lock and a key for the bike you want to match it to. If you want to take this on and can write more detailed instructions - very difficult without pictures.
