Well, I did it! I traded in my 06 LT on an 07 GT. I had never even considered it until I started reading Joe's GT postings. Then, I was hooked!
I'll be picking her up in a few days.
I didn't order a top box, for now, because I wanted a less top-heavy bike. We'll see if I change my mind.
More to follow....

If you wanted a less top heavy bike you have it now. You could buy the top box and fill it with rocks and it still will feel lighter than the LT! Enjoy the new ride. The only bad thing is that you have to start the farklization all over again.

I've had my '07 GT for exactly one week today--and it was a dandy. I got about 200 miles behind me on a glorious brisk autumn day... amazing. Going from an FLHR geezer glide (Road Kill) to this piece of engineering art is a transition, but I think I've got the hang of a smooth shift and I'm happier n' a pig in poop. Smooth, fast and sharp. Shazaaam, man! I bought the Heli-Bar extension, but haven't installed yet. I was a bit disappointed in the crummy anodized bolts that came with it. They replace those polished stainless 12 pointers that came with the thing... maybe I'm being picky. Supposed to bring the bars a little more than an inch toward me and the spacer thingie does look just like the bead-blast look of the stock aluminum bars... should make things more comfortable. Soon as I can find a suitablly classy replacement for the ugly knurled bolts that shipped with it, I'll do the do. Plus, I'm in line for one o' them Rick Mayer specials (saddles)... The AutoComm installed, all I need now is a helmet I can embed the ear and microphone in... we're off to the races... for now though I'm just enjoying 95mph feeling like 55mph.

I was able to buy some pretty milled aluminum cover nuts to hide the bolt ends. I got it from some beemer guy who was selling his bike due to some problem not related to the bike. You can always replace the bolts with stainless steel ones that can be bought a specialty hardware store.

I'm just a few ticks shy of 12K miles, and this GT is still performing flawlessly! The bike does everything so well, it's just silly. Riding the Blue Ridge Parkway at 33° on Saturday...no big deal. (Gerbing's ROCK!) Riding the Cherohala Skyway along with a Ducati Monster...again, no big deal. (And Doug Roorda takes that Duc on the track.) Pulling away from Dave Dragon on his LT at 120MPH...piece of cake. (Them LT's really look purty as they fade away in the rear-view mirror. :D)
In fact, talk to any of them SouthEast boys that met me at the Pisgah Inn on Saturday afternoon. They watched me make a line of bikes, cars, bikes, cars, and more bikes vanish behind me on the BRP. Zoom zoom... I guess I'm not much for staring at leaves. :D

It's a beautiful fall day in So Cal. About 65-70, dry and windy--just perfect for a ride.
I road my 06 LT to Winnetka, CA, 60 miles, and bid farewell. Laurie had my new, 07 Black, GT waiting in front for me. It was just sitting, calling to me. It looked so perfect. I was in and out of the dealer in under 30 minutes.
What a perfect first ride: N/B on the 14 for 60 miles to Lancaster. The bike is a masterpiece! Effortless acceleration. Nimble handling. Perfect to snake through surface street traffic. Up and down through the gears--it's great to have a wet clutch again! The idle was glass smooth and set at the perfect RPM--just over 1000. Perfect for engaging smoothly away from a stoplight.
Up on the freeway, I was cruising at 90 and it felt like 60. The engine revs effortlessly. I can't believe the red line is over 10k. Amazing! It was nearly impossible to follow the break-in instructions and keep the rev's under 7k. I rode her hard and put her away wet!
I had to park her after 60 only miles. Work calls. That was the toughest part of the day!

Jay, greetings again - I see you are following the same trend - Burgman, LT and now GT. I exchanged my LT for the GT about 2 months ago, and what a difference. I also had my interest in the GT awakened by this forum. Then a motorist pulled out without looking and wrote off my Burgman and rather than replace that I decided to trade in the LT as well and just have the GT instead. I have not regretted it for a moment, and I suspect you won't regret it either. The GT is just so much more fun. I have already done more miles on the GT than I did on the LT, although only having one bike does mean that all the mileage now goes on that. I do, however, go out on more 'just for fun' rides now I have the GT.
You're going to love this bike - have fun. :bmw:

Well, Grif, this is the second bike that I've bought from the same dealer in less than a year. So we have formed a productive business relationship. The Black GT's seem to be less common than the other colors.
Now, about that Goat's milk: does it mix with Kalua and Grey Goose Vodka?

Greetings Chris:
The LT was the ultimate on the freeway--especially in cold weather. But, for everything else, the GT rocks!
I sold my Burgman 650 several months after I bought the LT. I kind of regret it now. That big scoot was the ultimate around town bike. I loved screwing the the HD boys. I'd put it in "power" mode and eat them up!
Did the T/C total your Burgman?

I saw a Black LT at the Winnetka dealer long before BMW offered one. They apparently have a good paint shop nearby.
Maybe you could just spray yours in bed liner, grif, or rattle-can it? :D

Yes, the Burgman was written off as uneconomic to repair. Although the accident happended in Jun, I am still battling with the cager's insurance company to cough up all the additional costs of lost earnings, replacment kit etc. Actual bike valuation was paid by the insurance company within a couple of weeks, so I was able to order the GT straight away (or rather as soon as I was fit enough again for the test ride). In one way it prompted me to switch bikes, since, having lost the use of the Burgman, I tried to use the LT for short distance commuting in traffic and its weaknesses in this area quickly became apparent. I use the GT for the same journeys now and it's just as good as the Burgman was.
As for screwing HD boys, they think the GT's a magic bike, because it just disappears from in front of their eyes when you open that throttle..... :D :D :D

No doubt about that! I don't think that larger HD engine for 07 will make a bit of difference, either!
Well I'm glad your OK after the T/C.
