Just bought an '03 LT with a carbon remus. Don't really like the sound. It looks like the remus set up removes the cat etc. Can I put a stock muffler in place of the Reus muffler? Thanks all.

No. The stock system is a 1 piece unit so it's all or nothing. There are two Remus cans that can be purchased, a street and a "race" version. the street one is quite a bit quieter than the race one (obvious statement, I guess). When you look at the can exhaust opening from the rear is it an open hole about 2 inches across, or is there the large opening with a smaller pipe in the middle?

I would love to have the Remus system. In fact, if anyone wants to trade me for my excellent condition stock system (plus I will cover shipping both ways).

I prefer the stainless race canister but will consider others.

I also understand that you need to install a Rhinewest chip or other fuel injection management system, so if you want to sell it too, all the better.

PM or email me at BlackGS12@aol.com

Thanks!

The rhinewest chip or other injection mods are NOT required to use the Remus. The stock BMW system will make adjustments within it's mapping for the freer flowing exhaust. You can gain more power gains by using an aftermarket chip or other changes, but it is definitely not a must.

OK, you have the quietest Remus that they make. If that's too loud you may want to look into sourcing a stock system, or swapping out with someone who has a good stock system and wants a Remus.

Or you could do this http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=939&highlight=quieter+remus

I did, and what a difference. Maybe a little top end power loss, but how often do I run above 7500 RPM? Almost never. Took a year to discover this little trick. Wish I would have found it sooner.

Just curious, did your Remus start with just the single large opening, or was there a smaller diameter pipe there as well and you added another one? If the former, I think his pipe is the street can from Remus, which you modified yours to sound like/make quieter.

Hey your finished product looks like what I have. So I guess I am there already. Unless I am missing something. I have a large dia hole with a small pipe in it.

Have stock system (in perfect condition) off of 05 LT that I would trade for your remus. e-mail me @ kayd@shtc.net, if interested.

I also did Scott's mod. to my Remus with street can and was able to use a slightly longer length because I was under a trike body and needed an exhaust extension to get long enough to get out of the echo chamber.
The extension covers the smaller (wimpy actually) looking pipe that I inserted and the resulting sound is, IMHO, perfect.

I have the round aluminum street can, but it was still way too loud and droned terribly from 3-4 K. Found myself needing to stay in 4th while cruising to get out of the irritation zone. 4" of pipe really made it livable.

So can I make this mod to mine, it already has the small tube inside the larger opening. Is this an extension to that? My muffler looks exactly like the one pictured after the mod I think.

The mod. is a 1.25 O.D. length of stainless round tubing inserted in exhaust.
do a search for "quieter remus"..............
